He is and plays drums, but the single version is re-recorded. Phil is not on the album version. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

This happened quite a bit in the 1980's, releasing a re-recorded or remixed version of a song as a single and video. Some people would buy an album and be upset that the version on there was not the mix on the radio. I had Howard's album before this was a single, so I already knew it was different. The single version was on a remix/B-sides EP called Action Replay. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

It's like that for Everything She Wants and Freedom by Wham!. Even with Prince, the single version of Kiss had the little guitar riff and fades out, but the version on the album cuts off after the word "kiss" and goes into the next song. This was really common with Heartbreak era New Edition & BBD. All of the singles were remixes. The original version of Michael Jackson's Off The Wall album (very rare with orange target label) was remixed not long after it was released. We have the same taste Nursev....I love this song.
7000 + songs on my ipod and this is nowhere to be found...
I'm off to rectify that now. Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
