everyone used to fancy her back in the day, but i met her and the band backstage at a gig and she was tiny and covered in spots. quite different from the girl in the video. they had a few good tunes though. that beat box rockabilly post punk sound

I couldn't stop listening to them and The Primitives while at university. And We've Got a Fuzzbox and We're Gonna Use It!! too. I liked them the most of the three: http://prince.org/msg/8/280016

I liked them. They were around when I was a teenager and getting seriously into music. I seen them 3 times in concert, the first was in a tiny little club and was a great great gig. Wendy was fighting off leching drunks all night shouting "get yer tits oot!" Too me Transvision Vamp were more than just Wendy having a pretty face. They were good musicians with great songs and they killed it live. There was Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Big Audio, Westworld and all that lot, they were somehow lumped in with that scene. There 3rd album "Little Magnets Vs The Bubble Of Babble" (seriously) was turned down by their record label and was only released in the USA, shame too as it was a good effort, not as strong as Velveteen but good nontheless. They just vanished after that. Wendy went on to some solo work including an album written by Elvis Costello, but she went nowhere and relocated to (I think) NYC. The bassist went on to joing Bush and Nick Christian Slater went on to be a drug addict. Great band.

Fuzzbox were this amazing trashy gothic band before they dropped the We've got a...and became a pop group under the name of Fuzzbox. mental times.

yeah, neil tennant just said it was about a female pop star from 1989, but check the lyrics...
You live upon a stage, and everyone's agreed
You're the brightest hope by far that anyone can see So when you take the limelight you can guarantee You're gaining fame and claiming credibility Tell me baby are you gonna get high as a kite? Tell me baby are you gonna let it happen every night How can you expect to be taken seriously? You live within the law, and everyone assumes You must find this a bore, and try something new You're an intellectual giant, an authority To preach and teach the whole world about ecology Tell me baby are you gonna make any other claim? Tell me baby are you gonna take any of the blame? How can you expect to be taken seriously? How can you expect to be taken seriously? (Seriously) (Seriously) You live within the headlines, so everyone can see You're supporting every new cause and meeting royalty You're another major artist on a higher plane Do you think they'll put you in the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame? Tell me baby how you generate longevity Tell me baby how you really hate publicity How can you expect to be taken seriously? How can you expect to be taken seriously? Seriously (seriously) Seriously, aah (Do you have a message for your fans?) How can you expect to be taken seriously? How can you expect to be taken seriously? (Seriously) Seriously (Seriously) Seriously Aah, seriously
and remember the pet shop boys did a track for patsy kensit/eigth wonder, and they also released their own better version

I didn't know that. I remember when it came out, I wasn't too into the singles and I kept thinking, "ehhh, I'll get the album later" and I never got it. Loved Velveteen though.

a bit like westworld. only the first album was released in the uk, but in america they ended up on the soundtrack for planes trains and automobiles. big audio dynamite were in the soundtrack for ferris bueller. you can't go wrong with getting your music in a john hughes movie. westworld were also credited on whitney joins the JAMMS by the klf/jamms, which didn't quite sample i wanna dance with somebody but play the fucking record over the top of a drum machine with shouting on top

I remember paying something like £20 for the album in HMV when it finally reached the UK on import.

Apparently Westworld's first album was totally revamped for the USA too, tracks were taken off and others added, new art and all that stuff.
I seen Westworld at Virgin records in Princes St, they did like a promo thing for the album, played a few tracks and then signed albums. I had the album already and like a knob I never brought it with me. I only had my bus fare home so could not afford to buy a record to get signed. I got Derwood and the singer (can't remember her name) to sign my jacket. My mum went fucking ape shit when she clocked it, I was like "but mum...it's Westworld!"

Great pics unique. You were obviously at the same gig I was at, at The Venue. Were you there? they played Queens Hall and the Playhouse too over subsequent years. Playhouse was great, I was in row b, great view.
It's mental, MCA invested a ton of cash in T-Vamp, they were flying them around in private jets and evrything, amazing how fast it can go tits up. Just ask Tony James.

yeah they put remixes and stuff on the US version of the album. the first cd was supposed to have a deluxe reissue recently, like the ZTT stuff and i think they were going to issue the second album on cd too. not the third though. i have a double pack 10" of sonic boom boy and the second single
did you know wendy james had a band called racine that released 2 albums last decade and she had a third solo albout out a couple of years ago? neither did anyone else

I read something about her comeback in 2006 or something, never heard a note of it though.

yeah we had free tickets from levis and free bar and met them all backstage at a meet and great. we had some great levis posters like the one of her arms crossed. we got autographed stuff but we were so excited by the free bar. in fact one of us got a binbag and filled it with cans of red stripe and got out the playhouse with it. i think "any why not?" were the support band, who were also knocking about but no-one gave a toss about them. it's quite common when you have a thing like that for a popular group and the support act hang out and no-one wants to know them. like cast at TFI friday when prince played. they were trying to chat up birds who had never heard of them, even though they weren't bad at all

I remember when that issue of The Face with the Wendy James pix made it to the states. I was in Tower Records holding the magazine at different angles trying to see Wendy's nips under that strung-pearl top.

" /> She was a pretty wee thing.
The 12inch version of "Baby I Don't Care" had a big fold out colour poster of Wendy in a wee pink dress, that poster had pride of place on my wall for a looong time.
