RIP D.C. man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

It's strange because I do remember spending my early years (3-5) watching Soul Train one hour and American Bandstand the next but Dick left in '89 and Don stay on until '93. The great hosts of rock and roll now up in the sky. There'll never be hosts like those two ever again.

I used to watch his New Years Eve shows every year , sadly i'm to young to have really watched soul train.. but i respect what he did for it. Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

After he had recovered from the stroke he had I went to see how he would be when he returned to ring in the New Year and I couldn't bare to watch it anymore. That's how sad it was.

Wow. RIP. His show was part of my childhood. I saw him live, one day in the late 80s, in NYC when he was visiting an advertising agency I worked for, and he was walking by, with one of the ad execs. He really looked younger than his years in person, at that time. Guess that's why many called him the oldest, living teenager, because he aged well. Prayers to his wife and family. It's a sad moment for me. But no surprise at all given that Dick survived a stroke only a few years earlier. Nonetheless, I give a final shot out to the TV Legend.
And I still say THIS^ is the best game show theme ever!

Verdine White was just on CNN talking bout how Dick had the song September in his personal jukebox at his home. And how Ryan Secreast could be the next DC man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
