I really don't know what to make of him. I don't know if he's real or if he's a hypocrite. I guess he's supposed to be respected because he's one of those "OG's" from rap and it's like on almost nearly every hip hop documentary or documentary on a hip hop artist, he's commenting on it...yet he's got this silly show with his employee wife. And is it really true that he used to be a pimp or was that just talk? I'm not saying I don't like him or like him, I just don't know which way to take him. I do think he's a pretty good actor.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
Ice T is from the old school and back in the early 90s was one of the true pioneers in popularizing gangster rap. Similiar to Ice Cube, Ice T's music has taken a back seat and has mostly done acting.

Shit, late 80's. His was the first gangster rap record. A bit before NWA.

Oh I didnt know that... I always thought NWA was the first to really present that genre. The only popular song that Ice T really gets props in regards to that movement is for is Cop Killer and that song came out in the 90s.
I have to say, he does have a way with articulating his thoughts. I do enjoy his comments when he's talking about the LA riots and how it was back in those times.

CORRECTION: Schoolly D has the 1st gangster rap album. Ice-T was second.

Ohhhhh. You didn't see "Breakin'"? He was in it. That was back in the early-mid 80's. I guess that could be those "electro" days that Tony is speaking of.

D or Short may have ben first..BUT DARLENE WAS FINE AS FUCK
lawd that Power cover
I agree. He downgraded from Darlene to Coco. That's like going from a nicely tuned Cadillac to a broke down Buick with a fake antenna on top of the Buick.
Oh and to answer the pimp question: no he wasn't. He was around pimps a lot so he decided to put that in his raps. I think he did talk about actually being a pimp but usually stories like that are nonsense. Like the one with Snoop. The only rapper I know that was really a pimp was probably Too $hort.

I know that's right.Coco may have been a stunner in her youth though so Ill give her that.

Oh okay I see. So when Ice was in "Pimps Up, Hoes Down", he was just a willing attendee.

His first few albums where tight & i used to watch SVU. Some of his ''hood'' or ghetto stories maybe nonsense as pointed out. They always gotta ''rep''
But besides that he actually seem's like a cool dude to hang with. He can't be that hardcore he stared in one of the Leprechaun movies for GOD Sakes
Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener
All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen
Ice T is an O.G.! Ninja used to rip around LA in his bad ass Porsche, that was before he even got famous. He was street famous first The hair stayed permed and laid, and he kept a bad chick. Darlene was BAD.
