It's funny how things were then, some radio stations on both pop and R&B refused to play it because of the word "ball". Back then "balling" meant "fucking". That was the street slang at least. Didn't help that he had a couple moaning on the record. |

And now when you turn on the radio you hear lyrics like, "P-p-p-poker face, f-f-fuck her face." |

This is so smooth and sexy, Marvin did that!

It still means fucking...
If Marvin had left the moaning out of the song, a lot of people wouldn't have known what he was speaking of. Well most of the "puritans". They played this song in Chi-Town. I heard some stations use to play sexual suggestive songs after 8:00pm or close to midnight, I don't recall that being the case. |

But I wonder who says "balling" now. |

Very few- if any at all - still use the euphemism.
Mr. Nelson used it on "Let's Pretend We're Married" but that was back in '82.
-------------------------------------------------------------
This album marked Marvin's odyssey into eroticism. Upon first listen , my young ears had a very distinct feeling the subject matter was unsuitable for teens, but his vocals and the musical arrangement imbued the song with a touch of, dare I say, class and sweetness. |

By 2012 standards, the album's subject matter is real tame but 40 years ago, this was wild for one artist to talk about. Shows you how far ahead of his time he really was. |
