That's right. And I have yet to see one single person on the news being thrown into a police car dressed in thigh high boots and glittery braids while committing a crime immitating him. Can't say the same for shit hop though. lol

You're right, there wasn't anyone imitating Rick James being thrown into a police car.

It was just Rick himself.

That's much better!

rolleyes

As for Rick being thrown in a police car himself. Yes, that is much better. He's one person being thrown into that police car, not thousands of young people immitating him. There are negative people in every genre of music and in every job out there. The difference is, the influence they have on other people. Rick's crimes were mainly drug related and we all knew that drugs was just something rock stars, funk stars, and every form of entertainers did. The coolest entertainers have always had big drug habits but we all knew it was something they did, not us, and we as average people couldn't afford them even if we wanted them. But Rick's whole life was the life of a "star" and a star was not something easily immitated in those days. It not only costed big money to dress in outrageous custom made clothes, but it also took big guts to wear them. The average Joe on the street might idolize the hell out of Rick James but there was no way in hell they could immitate him because like true stars, he looked the part. He didn't look like some damn criminal off the street and you sure as hell couldn't go into a regular store and buy clothes like his. He even carried himself with a star attitude..."I'm motherfucking Rick James"....that's letting you know right there, he's not trying to "keep it real". That's letting you know he's the one and only. In other words, an "individual" that wasn't the average person. He carried himself with the "I'm better than you" star attitude. He was a "character" and people love characters in entertainers.

No matter how much some people may have loved someone like Rick James, we all knew that was entertainment. It was fantasy. We knew the difference in fantasy and reality. And when music stopped being entertainment, was when it started being too much like reality. People should never not know the difference in reality and fantasy but the whole reason for entertainment is to escape reality for a little while and have some fun and when entertainment no longer is fun, then it's no longer entertainment.

To me, there's something of a negative resonance with 2Pac. Sure people love his music but the industry was more attracted to his bad boy image and that's why they tried to find it in other rappers from DMX, Ja Rule, 50 Cent on down. They weren't interested in 1991-1993 2Pac though that era 2Pac was also something of a bad boy (or "thug") then as well. But then you look at his background and you think "hmm... OK, something's off" because if he was as real as he claimed or inspired to be, then why was there so many mixed signals? I think Pac was very complex but with the "intelligence" - and he had some social messages that still resonate with some part of his audience (including me), there was also still the need to prove that he was "keeping it real". The last year of his life was nothing but smoke and mirrors because he was living the life of his image and I think that's what killed him: "the image". My dad always said his ignorance is what got him killed - and I believe it.

Tupac was trying to play both sides. I do feel he had more good in him than bad though.

2pac was way smarter than most of you sheep on here talking bollocks as usual.

he had a deep understanding of the illuminati and all types of knowledge while you cunts were still in nappies.

Yes, he purposely had a thug image, but that would have gone in time, as social issues were far more important to him as a human being.

had he lived, he would be doing great things.

its a shame some of you cunts believe otherwise.

Because he was real, he wore his heart on his sleeve, he was unafraid, unabashed, unapologetic, entertaining, a great songwriter as well as rapper, he was intelligent, artistic, poetic, with a deep rooted understanding of the real social issues he wrote about, he attracted talent to him in the same way that Prince does, he was relateable to both men and women, he wasn't a misogynist unlike many other rappers (see 'Keep Ya Head Up' for example), he was incredibly prolific but consistently brilliant (even most of his unreleased material is excellent), he was a gifted poet and actor, and he's the icon/hero for troubled youth, (especially 80's and 90's babies) in the same way that Kurt is. His life story has been mytholigized to the point of legend, and he was ahead of his time in the sense that his words remain relevant today.

Those are just SOME of the reasons why. There never has, and there never will be another artist like him. He's utterly unique and especially within the realms of hip-hop. He transcends it.

yeahthat Not to mention he had that hypnotic voice. When he spoke, people listened. He would have made a great social activist/preacher/educator. Oh wait.....lol
