Are we at another return of the boy band stage? Just out of curiosity I checked out the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which I used to follow religiously up until about 2002 when I gave up looking for awesome songs to hit the pop charts. At any rate, I noticed a couple of boy bands currently in the top five.
The Wanted
One Direction
They have both been on national TV lately, with The Wanted appearing on an episode of American Idol and One Direction appearing on Saturday Night Live. And we shouldn't forget about Big Time Rush, the manufactured boy band with its own show on Nickelodeon.
While I'm sure most of you are sick boy bands in general, it appears they seem to come onto the collective consciousness every ten years or so. Remember that the last big boy band stage came to its zenith back in 2001, when the Backstreet Boys, 'Nsync, and LFO ruled the charts, and before that we had New Kids on the Block in the late 80's and early 90's. So are we on the verge of another boy bad explosion? Discuss.
