With a new hit record and a net worth said to be in the hundreds of millions, Lionel Richie probably won't be staying up all night long worrying about an unpaid tax bill of just over a million bucks.

TMZ reports the IRS has filed a lien of $1.1 million -- $1,130,609.11 to be exact -- against the singer.

There's no word yet on the alleged matter from Richie's reps.

Richie's country music collaboration Tuskegee recently reached #2 on the Billboard 200 chart, his best debut since 1986.

all i know is 3 years ago when i filed my NYC state return something wasnt dedcuted, not my error, but i in fact owed them 26 dollars to which i got a letter saying pay up or the proper authorities could be called in....for $26, not even a late notice, so i dont feel bad for any of these cats that try to get around the law or claim stupidity as a defense.

no but it just pisses me off that this constantly happens and NO ONE learns...stop letting your cousin doug do your fucking taxes to get around deductions....that is why all of them do things like this and then go, oh shit damn

So true. confused Musicians should take courses in college about business like Howlin' Wolf did back in the day. Howlin' Wolf didn't have much of an education growing up but once he was starting to make some money, he began to see how business was and had his wife help his finances. He was living well off the hog by the time he died in 1976.

I was never of fan of anything Lionel, including The Commodores. But the countirfying of his songs IMO actually helped them. evillol

But Lonel is cool people, though, and his "new" album seems to be getting positive reviews and selling well. He'll be a'ight with this tax situation.

He did 2 network shows tonight. One on NBC tracing his family tree, and another on CBS, Lionel Richie and Friends. Guess he's making that $$ to pay. He's been all over the place.

He sold a lot of records, but that was like 20 years ago. Of course he still receives royalties and does concerts...but hundred of millions???

I was wondering about that number too, but who knows? Maybe he invested well? shrug

Back in the day a businessman said Lionel owned land or property in a prime area in Beverly Hills. I don't have any receipts for this, just word of mouth. lol Take that one with a grain of salt, uhh, spoon of salt. wink

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Pamela Anderson and Lionel Richie owe the government money.

California tax authorities said Anderson owes $524,241 in personal income taxes. The Franchise Tax Board included the "Baywatch" star on a list of the state's 500 biggest income-tax delinquents posted Friday.

Meanwhile, E! Online reports (http://eonli.ne/HDd0EP) that Richie owes the federal government $1.1 million in unpaid taxes and that a lien has been issued warning that the singers' assets may be seized if he doesn't pay up in a timely manner.

A message seeking comments from Richie's publicist wasn't immediately returned Saturday. A call to Anderson's tax attorney, Robert Leonard, wasn't immediately returned.

California law requires tax authorities to update and publish the names and amounts owed by the state's 500 biggest tax scofflaws twice a year.

"When taxpayers do not pay their fair share, it places an unfair burden on those who do," the tax board said on its website, which said the 500 owe the state nearly $233 million.

Other notable names on California's tax-delinquent list include CNET co-founder Halsey Minor, Joe Francis, the founder of the "Girls Gone Wild" video empire, actor Nick Cassavetes and boxer James Toney.

Minor and his wife, Shannon, are on top of the list for owing the state $10.5 million in personal income taxes.

Francis owes $794,000, Cassavetes, the son of filmmaker John Cassavetes and actress Gena Rowlands, owes $273,000 while Toney owes $354,000.
