Another thing people missed, Madonna had the biggest fall In history and yet she is still number 8? So much for the boom in the industry the industry sales are in the toilet more now than ever a record breaking fall would have been her album dropping to #148 not number #8.

Good point, didn't think of that. Biggest fall and still being in the top 10 doesn't sound like the biggest fall ever.

yeah trust me im not a huge fan of madonna by any means but it just seems the conversation is all based on how this 53 year old with almost 30 years of hits...is washed up? really? dont get that talk at all, maybe if this was her second album, but its her what? 12th studio album, i mean its a pointless debate. And the "fall" spoken of isnt relevant because like i said it doesnt show anything but the fact the industry is in the toilet that the biggest drop in sales resulted in a 1---8 drop.

Yeah but her history (and it certainly is impressive) doesn't preclude her from being

washed up. I'm not saying she is, but she certainly is becoming irrelevant.

Madonna's the type who would commit suicide just to become relevant again.

Exactly, you can't even give a reason.

Her album isn't great, her voice isn't great, and her face isn't great.

So why is she selling?

Her voice is exceptional and unique.

The songs she's written will get better.

I still listen to 'Someone Like You' and 'Turning Tables' on the regular.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I have her first two albums and I disagree.

'Rolling In the Deep' sounds nothing like 'Someone Like You' which doesn't sound like 'Chasing Pavement.'

But then we can apply that "washed up" term to alot of artists, including the site this is named after. Prince hasnt had a crossover hit since 1995, when he had "most beautiful girl" single got wide appeal and charted all over the world. Prince's world sales have been dismal since the late 80's, despite being a huge touring draw, he basically has been "washed up" for 17 years if we go with the facts, Musicology despite selling 1.8 million, had no HIT on it, and its sales were driven by the media and him being on the radio. So i think Prince and Madonna are far from washed up and well past that idea, i know that we all apply that word to anyone with a career and that is older, but to me you are washed up if you dont record music anymore, if you are doing what you do, forget the charts.

Trust me - you are not hurting my feelings if you said Prince was washed up! But I'm

not saying he is or that Madonna is. What I'm saying is that Madonna's past success

doesn't mean that she will escape being washed up one day.

But the difference between the two is that Prince is an actual musician; that is,

he has the ability, because of his musicianship, to not be washed up, nevermind

his relevance. You and I differ on the definition of washed up: in my opinion, it's

the stage you reach artistically when you are consistenly rehashing old material

because you are incapable of expressing yourself innovatively.

That's bad news for Prince "Lotusflower/Minneapolis Sound" Nelson.

As far as Thicki Minaj is concerned - in three years, most will view her the way that I

do presently: who gives a shit?

Exactly, you can't even give a reason.

Her album isn't great, her voice isn't great, and her face isn't great.

So why is she selling?

[Edited 4/12/12 15:18pm]

She's a beautiful singer and her appearance is irrelevant

Adele's appearance is irrelevant because she is ugly.

But for other artists, it sells them records.

Smart-ass.

Her songs all sound the same

I have her first two albums and I disagree.

'Rolling In the Deep' sounds nothing like 'Someone Like You' which doesn't sound like 'Chasing Pavement.'

People only listen to two/three songs off the album (clearly you do too), I think that tells you something. The fourth was unsuccessful.

Her voice is exceptional and unique.

The songs she's written will get better.

I still listen to 'Someone Like You' and 'Turning Tables' on the regular.

Her songs all sound the same

Agreed.

No they don't. It's just that she uses real instruments, which people aren't used to anymore and think it's boring an instrument sounds the same on every record lol

She just has a specific sound...has nothing to do with the instruments..Maroon 5 use all instruments 95% of the time and you get their signature sound too....so that is not an argument.

Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.
