Ten Greatest Pop Stars Since 1950 These illustrious ones have few peers Remarkably, though, rockers often consider it an insult to be called pop stars! (And possibly vice versa.) By the way, the author compiled this list without adding up record sales and awards, though experience is taken into consideration; nobody on this list is under 25. Any computer could be programmed to spit out a list based on data alone, but who would want to see it? The subjective point of view prevails in artistic matters, because art is about people. The list also doesn’t include pop stars whose careers blossomed before the 1950s. This list was hard enough to produce. Somebody else can cover the first half of the twentieth century! Please check out this list of the Ten Greatest Pop Stars of All Time:
9. Billy Joel
8. Tony Bennett
7. Lady Gaga
6. Stevie Wonder
5. Paul McCartney 4. Elvis Presley 3. Madonna
2. Michael Jackson
1. Sting

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Okay. Let's assume for the purposes of this thread that the writer has not lost his/her natural mind by implying that pop is more "respectable" than rock. And that the omissions of Sinatra, Charles, Brown, the "other" Jackson, Hendrix, Dylan, and this thread's namesake, among many other interchangeables, were excusable. And let's presume that the list is "subjective" as opposed to "naive and biased."
Sting -- an artist whom I happen to love -- is the greatest pop star of the last 60 years. Greater than Stevie Wonder, who stood alone for the better part of a decade musically, and Michael Jackson, who dominated Sting's heyday.

That's some bullshit... The salvation of man is through love and in love. - Dr. V. Frankl
"When you close your heart, you close your mind." - Michael Jackson (Man In The Mirror) "I don't need anger management, I need people to stop pissing me off"

There is nothing wrong with that but she most certainly does not belong on a GREATEST list of anything and on top of that ranked above Tony and Billy OH PLEASEEEE.... this list became trash when they placed Gaga on the list and Sting ABOVE MJ

Awful list. | |

Sting in the top 10 at all seems ridiculous to me. I think this list was just made as a joke to rile MJ fans.

Stupid list and I like Sting, but come on... Just Music-No Categories-Enjoy It!

It's a hubpage article, everyone is an expert on something there (even me). Good for them, good for them. I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world.

So they put Gaga on the list, who's been around for like 4 years, but no Madonna, who's been around for 30 years...yeah right.

If you're going to do a list like that then the selected people should at least have a sizeable body of work and some staying power as well. And Gaga simply doesn't have either of those. Two full length albums and an ep just don't cut it, in my opinion. Hell, Britney Spears has both, with around 7 albums so far and she's been around just over a decade (13 years) compared to Gaga's 4. As much as I love some of her music, Gaga is definitely overated in this instance.

I think this list must include some more name big names like Britney Spears, Shakira etc… means they did fantastic contribution to the music world. __________
