I really don't get it. I guess I don't get how someone can just "walk" away from fame the way she did. And she could have recorded other classic cds. So what is her deal?

Maybe she just isn't really that into it.

If you think about it, it's odd that people assume that everyone who is into music wants or needs to be a star.

She has premiered new songs in concert, "Fearless Vampire Killer" being one of the best.

Her long-awaited second album, The Return, is due out before year's end.

Looks like she's still crying for help but is not receiving it for some reason. Alot of people/artists are "functional crazies" in that they can still work/peform, do music, etc. Apparently, Ms. Hill isn't one of those types. I'd rather see her "well" than to hear/see good music from her. I wish her the best.

Praz confirmed the crazy theory years ago when some paparrazi asked him why the reunion attempts never went anywhere.

Manic depression is her illness.

I think its refreshing that she's prioritizing on sanity and well being as opposed to run after a pipe dream(stardom). As much as her abscence hurt me as listener, I fully support her on focusing on her own life.

I don't see "crazy" in that at all. Being a "star" is not the end all, be all of living.

When did it come out that she was manic? I'm sure having all those damn kids didn't help matters. Lawd, her and Erykah.

I think she wanted success and when it came to her the way that it did, she could not handle it. This, coupled with the fact that she does show signs of, Bi-Polar disorder, does not make for a good mix. The powers that be, (meaning, the industry) won't help her because, first, it is not their job and second, her antics is what makes her popular, instead of her music. Quite frankly, I wish she would disappear. I find her self serving attitude, to be extremely annoying.

Being bipolar is pretty difficult. I've got half a dozen friends who have gone completely apeshit bonkers, and helping them is near impossible. You can't force someone to take meds, and the meds do their own wierd things.

The thing is that if someone like Lauryn Hill is bipolar or schizo-affective, or WHATEVER, they are probably spending ample amounts of time just trying to survive their own life. And everyone around them is working overtime to keep things together, or trying to keep their distance cause they got burned out on the drama. Those kinds of mental illnesses are just hard.

My girlfriend of 6 years is bi-polar, so I know good and well the effects of the disease. The thing is, my girl knows that she has it and what happens when she does not take her meds. I hope, somebody in her camp wises up and does something.

To me it's a situation like Dave Chapelle or Harper Lee. She's got enough money and is fine with retiring and living a normal life.

She was always cra cra which is fine when you're hot and up and coming. But it doesn't work when one is trying for a comeback and continues to act crazy. I listened to her last year on NPR interveiw and she was all over the place. I half expected a chem trail mention.

I missed it-how was she always crazy? During the 90s, she seemed fine to me.

I honestly don't know much about the 90's... but i know after Miseducation. She from what Wyclef said wanted to be reffered to as ''Mrs. Lauryn Hill''

I saw some interviews where she talked to a school and she was a good speaker & seemed lika strong, intelligent woman. But after recent interviews something is not right.... sad

I saw a lie show, where she was saying she gets there when she can & true fans will wait hours for an artist? yeah... no lol

And in other interviews she mumbles about GOD & higher power and how the powers say when she can return to music and just weird shit eek

Lauryn is defintley out there....

I've heard lots of crazy stories about her.

She's very talented, and I love her music (Fugees + her debut record).

If she does release more music, I know I'll be one of the first to be waiting to listen to it.

I don't know what happened, but it's a shame that she didn't continue making new albums. Can you imagine how many classic albums she could have released throughout the 2000s and beyond? confused She disappeared and Alicia Keyes sorta filled that void.

lol You know what I mean.In 1998/99,Lauryn was the "critic's darling" but when she disappeared, critics and Grammy voters suddenly began embracing Alicia Keyes...acting like SHE was the best thing since sliced bread, lol.

I can see that point now but I thought u meant fullfilling wise (huh?) as they are imo totally different types of artist. I know she has some issues but I feel Hill is much deeper than Alicia even with much less output/product.
