I've heard about that mixtape but I simply discarded it figuring I wasn't missing much. I guess I was wrong. Although she would probably object, some of these tracks could be easily fleshed out with the right producer behind them. And I'm not talking over-produced either.

In some ways, I like this better than the released version. I was not disappointed.

Really? In what ways? I'm definitely going to check it out...Better late than ever.

The just seemed raw and have this "unpolished" feel to them. Like, what she wanted to say, but couldn't....

Probably drugs, weed in particular, and a stressful relationship. Those two factors alone can cost you years, if not a decade, before you even know it.

I don´t understand all those "dickwhipped" remarks here. lol

Do you seriously think that the sex some dude is giving is THAT good that you become addicted and lose all self esteem? I think there must be more behind it than that. Sure, you can do a lot of crazy stuff and make mistaked because you want to maintain an unhealthy relationship but I don´t think that sex alone is the only factor.

I´m not really waiting for another legit release by her, and I think at times she was simply too full of herself and took herself and her ideas too seriously ( for a moment I was worried about Badu going the same route) but I would never count her off as a has been.

I have always believed in D´Angelo and a possible comeback and guess who came back with some great shows a few months ago?

No matter how long the break was that he took, and you can see my posts here on the org as a proof that I never lost belief in D´Angelo but then again, D´Angelo is a more accomplished musician than Lauryn but still, I think she can always make a comeback and release a successful album no matter how much time has passed since her last release. Look at Sade, she takes long breaks, too.

She is (or was) a highly intelligent, smart, educated, articulate, eloquent woman with a university degree in literature so I guess she had a certain amount of discipline and brains in the past.

For the best part of the last decade and more, she would often mumble about weird conspiracy theories, show up extremely late when she had a concert (much like Sly Stone did) and act and dress all weird, drastically different from before, spiced with an unhealthy dose of paranoia.

I´m not saying that she IS using drugs but the signs are there.

That being said, I´d never rule out the possibility that she can still get her act together, write a few good, new songs, add some unreleased material and find a good producer and release a great album again. Lesser talents are out there filling the void that she´s left, so why not?

She would have to either find new producers and musicians though or settle her disputes with those dudes who felt ripped off during the making of her first album. There were some nasty disputes regarding credits back then.

I know you weren´t referring to me, but still.... wink

im with you right here. taking long breaks and wearing ugly outfits doesnt necessarily mean youre crazy. all that other bullshit might.

i believe that lauren's probs are more deeply rooted in the "not having a dad" thing she has talked about before. it speaks to a serious lack of discearnment if you have 5 kids with a married man in full awareness of his bullshit etc. but she obviously doesnt know how to pick a good man- wyclef is a braggert and an idiot that used to make some good records. marley has always been trash, imo. but then his father was a notorious shagmonster and only half of bm's kids are legit. im sure his son simply follows that pattern.

those unreleased tracks were nice but nothing special. lauren has talent but was never great as a recording artist- but onstage she had more swag than most people EVER!! i think that's what her fans and the others watching have noticed. the light in her eyes and the swag is gone. i think that somes from deep unhappiness and all that other bs with clef and marley.

I hear ya on the rawness. I think she was forcing the listener more than ever pay attention to the lyrics. To much polish risked that getting lost.

Yeah she did have swagger about her that got lost. She does have mental issues as Harlepolis said and having five children by a man who don't wanna marry ya don't help matters.

Heartbreak, overnight success, music industry politics, possible bipolar disorder, and dickmatism are all a combination of what led us here. But I am completely 100% supportive of Lauryn and hope she does what is best for herself!

Right. There are no substantiated reports she was ever medically diagnosed with a mental illness. There are some who have made the claim because of her eccentricities.

Lauryn & Wyclef have these long thank you's & Pras is just like thank you to God & people who did or did not support me. And i hope people got tired of sucking dicks in 95? is he talking about people sucking dicks for record deals? kissing ass? or was he tired of sucking dick in private?

Well, bipolar symptoms are pretty easy to spot for those who have known those who suffer from the disorder. Sometimes they can be misconstrued as "druggie" behaviors or they might be exacerbated by drug use. Some of Lauren's odd behavior suggests bipolar disorder even if I hadn't read an article on it, since I have known a couple of people in my life who suffered from it. Regardless, her "Miseducation" album is a true music classic and her talent can't be denied, whatever has happened in her life. One more note on "bipolar disorder" and other types of "disorders"--just because someone suffers from one of these doesn't mean they are "crazy" or wacked out of their minds. That only happens in extreme cases. Most people that suffer from bipolar disorder, including the ones that I have known, were very intelligient and talented people who were well aware of their problem but couldn't control it. That is why both counseling and the RIGHT kind of medication is essential. But, all of us should watch out about pasting the "crazy" label on people. That is all! wink
