Led Zeppelin IV I recently rediscoverd this album after glancing over the WNPG playlist in ONAL and seeing Black Dog on the list. I had forgotten how good this album is, Robert Plants wails are in full effect and Jimmy Page's guitar playing is legendary. Everyone knows Stairway To Heaven, however tracks like Rock and Roll, The Battle of Evermore, and Going To California are classics as well. My favs are When The Levee Breaks and Black Dog, these jams are as fresh today as they were in '71. This album along with Physical Graffiti and II are my all time favorties from Zeppelin.

OK, yes, I'm a rhythm fanatic so I always end up talking about the drums on Zep's songs, but if you ever get a chance listen to the intro to Little Richard's "Keep A Knockin" and compare it to the intro of Zep's "Rock and Roll."
Oh, and not that anybody in this thread did it, but am I the only one who is annoyed when people describe Zep as a metal band? People who are surface listeners can only come to that conclusion. Of course I'm not saying they didn't have a huge influence on all the metal bands that came after them (even if some real metal bands don't know it), but their music contained so many different elements and influences, that to call it metal isn't seeing the forest for the trees. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

i've had MANY an argument with ppl over this.. it's just ridiculous... i usually play them "d'yer mak'er" ... and tell them to shut the fuck up.

When The Levee Breaks is a aural earthquake! That song floored me the first time i heard it and in many ways i think it's the quintessential zep song. Bonzo's drumming in particular is scary. The man really was in a different league to any other drummer.

THE album of my high school years. It doesn't get much better (except for III & Physical Graffiti ). Jimmy Page is a guitar god! But the absolute best talent of that group, of course, was Bonzo. His influence is still being felt today. He made those songs...Pagey knew when John died he was irreplaceable and thus making Zep history.

im a fan of led zeppelin,
but no way jimmy page is a guitar god. he was excelent rhythm guitar player, but his guitar solos (with the exception of since ive been loving you) is sloppy.he was very repetitive , and with no imagination, during his solos. and he only played boring poentatonic, but he improved in the 80-es.

But that's what was so great about him, he took chances and never failed to experiment. Sloppy..on many occasions! Fantastic for the most part though and inspired. Give me Page over the likes of Clapton anyday. On the tour with The Black Crowes a couple of years back he was staggeringly good.

Dazed & Confused, Thank You, Since I've Been Loving You, Celebration Day, Stairway, Going to California, Gallows Pole, In My Time of Dying, Rain Song, Four Sticks, The Rover, Custard Pie, Sick Again, Bring it on Home. Pagey was a fuckin master. Go back to school.

JIMMY PAGE WAS A MASATER of hard rock riffs,
but he was sloppy guitar player, at that time there were many better guitar players like jeff beck, ritchie blackmore, from deep purple, santana of course. and 4 that guy that wants 2 send me 2 school. hehe been there ,done that, led zeppelin were my idols when i was 15. im 21 now still like them , but i listen much more 2 prince, james brown, funkadelic, commodores, santana jimi hendrix, earth wind and fire, return to forever, stevie wonder, george benson, isley brothers and many others. i bet time stoped 4 u after led zeppelin made that "songs remain the same" video.

LZ of course is great but John Paul Jones is so underrated imho. I love what he did with some of his production and synths..I love his take on Stevies Superstition on Trampled Underfoot. "Climb in my fur."

yes yes yes... he had a LOT to do with production especially at the end... when Jimmy was dealing with his drug thang... his bass playing blows my mind .. it was a shame he wasn't included in the page/plant thing... even though i loved this project

Page could be sloppy, but not all of the time. Live he could also bring one to tears at times. I think Page's equal strength was as the group's producer. NOBODY sounded like Led Zeppelin, back in 1969 or today. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
