rolleyes One last time--Madonna and Lionel both deserve congratulations for any chart successes--however brief--after 30 years in the biz. If you want to run numbers into the ground, that's your biz. Lionel and Madonna congratulated each other and now they are moving on. Can you? razz lol

19.Remixed & Revisited.............2003.......550.000
TOTAL: 193.400.000 (data on 2009)
----------------

Two facts are clear:
1. Madonna - best-selling female singer in history and fourth in the overall
2. Madonna has sold approximately 200 million of her albums worldwide, to be precise, about 195-197 million
------------
On topic: I think it is quite obvious that, even without pre-orders and sales of albums, along with tickets to the concert, Madonna would be ahead of Lionel at least 50-60 thousand copies. You can not just remove this "album+ticket" sales from the total because many people still would have bought the album (with or without tickets)
I think that MDNA could sell in the first week somewhere slightly less than Hard Candy - 250-260 thousand copies.

I'm not saying the sales are wrong, I'm saying she's not the best selling female artist. At least not in the U.S. Barbara Streisand is with 77 million.

United States - not the whole world. wink
Barbra and Elvis Presley more than 50% of their records sold in the USA.
Madonna has sold in the U.S. about 30% of the records, de facto, in Europe it has sold more than in the United States.
Some artists are oriented to the domestic market, and some - for export.
Top 5 best-selling female singers (globally)
1. Madonna ~ 300m (195m albums worldwide | 100m singles worldwide)
2. Celine Dion ~ 230m (173m albums worldwide | 51m singles worldwide)
3. Mariah Carey ~ 210m (150m albums worldwide | 55m singles worldwide)
4. Whitney Houston ~ 200m (135m albums worldwide | 55m singles worldwide)
5. Barbra Streisand ~ 190m (135m albums worldwide | 45m singles worldwide)

The numbers do not lie ... Madonna - best-selling female artist in the world. I'm not the biggest fan of her and I like less than half of her songs, but I've been watching sales for several years and her leadership among women in music is simply obvious. It's not even close in sales, to be honest. wink

For me, I LIKE Madonna. I'm not a die-hard like some people here who know all of her sales numbers, know all of her alternative versions and b-sides, etc., but I do buy her cds. Do I like them all, no. but I respect her as an artist and performer. No matter how you look at it, the woman has worked hard for her accomplishments.

Now, let's grouphug

I would like that! i like her 90's albums but i'm not a HUGE fan/...

Idc about numbers... people should not get so caught up on who sells how many of what copies. It's useless knowledge

Probably Sweet Clyde and William King. I don't think these guys are as

Report: Madonna's 'MDNA' Sets Record For Biggest Sales Drop

First-week sales inflated by CDs bundled with concert tickets

By Rolling Stone

April 10, 2012 12:35 PM ET

Madonna's 'MDNA'

Madonna's new album MDNA is on track to set the record for the biggest second week sales drop in history, Forbes reports. According to Forbes' sources, sales of the album will drop by 88 percent, from 359,000 copies in its first week of release to around 46,000 in its second week in stores.

The album's first-week sales figures were reportedly inflated by CDs that were bundled with the purchase of some concert tickets for her upcoming tour. According to the Hollywood Reporter, 185,000 copies of MDNA were sold as part of the ticket package deal, meaning that only 179,000 copies count as individual album sales. Without these ticket package sales, MDNA would have placed at Number 2 on the charts behind Lionel Richie's Tuskegee, which moved 199,000 copies in that week.

The sales drop for MDNA can largely be attributed to a lack of chart traction for its two singles, "Give Me All Your Luvin'" and "Girl Gone Wild," and limited promotion by the singer. Though the singer performed at the Super Bowl halftime show, participated in a Q&A with Jimmy Fallon on Facebook and went on Twitter for a day, she has avoided major television appearances and live performances.
