MADGE’S TWO ON THE AISLE: Madonna’s Interscope album, MDNA, which debuted at #1, racking up a year-best 358k first-week sales, benefited from a Ticketmaster bundling with concert tour tickets that added up to almost half of the total, according to theN.Y. Post. Those additional “sales” were the difference in finishing ahead of Lionel Richie who scored his best first week of theSoundScan era with nearly 200k for his country collaboration, Tuskegee. While SoundScan had made an “opt-in” offer for an album when purchasing a concert ticket mandatory to count “sales” in the wake of a previous Prince promotion, insiders insist that the consumer choosing to use a supplied redemption code satisfied that requirement. Other sources claimed the consumer being offered the option of either a “digital” or “physical” copy was sufficient. An inside source told the Post: “While the public may view it as free, [the album is] actually bundled into the price of the ticket.” (4/4p)

Did Madonna do something to you?
Did you call her and didn't she call you back?
Do you know her from highschool, but didn't she want to go out with you?
There must be something to explain this obsession
8 yrs back when prince tried this gimmick most ppl on the org took it as a joke and never under stood the logic its just madonna is being killed by lionel and they want to pretend everything is alright |

In your face asg. Madonna topped the chart, legitimately. If this was some kind of devious, unfair move on her end, Billboard would have sanctioned her for it. They have no allegiance to Madonna and because of ridiculous crybabies such as you they probably have examined the situation twice over, and guess what: she's still #1.
Don'tcha hate it?! Doesn't it just make ya mad? Frustrating, isn't it?
Madonna's #1 and there's not a damn thing you can do, say, protest or whine about it here that will change the fact. Heh. Chew on it until you choke. [Edited 4/5/12 9:30am] |

You keep posting and posting about the MDNA sales. Why are you so concerned about it?
I'm just curious |

Madonna's success has been gettin' under people's skin for about 30 years, and it's never gonna change. Every album, it's the same thing.
And it's totally fine. Otherwise she'd be boring. |

Madonna and Lionel BOTH deserve congratulations on their success. Both are on top the charts again for the first time since 1986, That's a remarkable thing. It doesn't matter who is number one. I applaud them BOTH! "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I'll just say this and leave quietly.. just something to think about....
What is remarkable to me is the fact that Lionel didnt have any MAJOR mainstream promotion and STILL went to number one.
That is what is remarkable here in this case. Like Adele, that really amazes me. And what these rare occassions of people buying music the old fashion way is showing is all this gimmick and over promotion really doesnt mean anything and to be honest.... it doesnt and shouldnt. Its refreshing that people are moving away from that.
Madonna going to number one is not that surprising and to be honest not that remarkable. I would be more surprised if she didnt go to number one... being that she had a shit load of promotion and gimmicks to get there.

And how is a 20 minute selling stint on cable not a gimmick or promotion?
The fact is both artists used non traditional promotions to sell there CDs, but still used promotions and gimmicks, both are doing well and neither care about this nearly as much as asg does. 2012: The Queen Returns |

It's amazing to me... some of these folks either can't read, or lack reading comprehension. Lionel's album has been subject to a massive promotional campaign. 20k of the albums sold were because of a Home Shopping Network promotion. He's been all over TV with this, and it's been a major push. Nothing wrong with that, good for him!
But some folks here are completely out of touch with reality. |

And you dont care? Check how many times you have came in here to prove a point no one cares about and secondly Lionel did not do as nearly as much promotion Madonna did for her album so you can sit down and have all the sits...
Im not knocking her but your just in denial if you think both received the SAME promotion |

Both of them promoted their albums their own ways. Madonna with the tour, Lionel with HSN. It won them big sales.
Instead of thinking it's a conspiracy or excusing another artist, just congratulate them both.
But nah people are here for distance and irritation, not reasoning. Silly me. It's the ORG. |
