I don't think it was that bad. Mariah holds the title for the worst Prince remake to me.

Mimi's remake was my introduction to Prince' world, I was an obssessed lamp back in my teenage days and I obtained every original song she covered, however this was the one that hit home.

Prince said in a radio interview at the time that he appreciated the sentiment, but it wasn't meant to be a "duet". Maybe if she got rid of Sisqo the baltimore blonde bleached rat and his posse, the song would've been more effective.

With that being said, the song still has a place in my heart, flaws and all
