TLC is my favorite group of all-time. The chemistry between the three of them, what they created...I can't explain it. It's like magic. They all played their roles well, all had different strengths, all brought something different to the table. T-Boz, Left-Eye, & Chilli would never work if one was missing. They were all necessary which is what made them a genuine trio. It's also why there's been no major success and sparks since Lisa's death. It's over. A link is forever missing.
If you're looking for sheer vocals, you can't get any better than En Vogue. The harmonies....every last one of them could sing their asses off. I was just listening to a recent live performance last night and they still have it. I saw someone in an earlier post making a reference to SWV?
The difference between these two (which I think are the greatest girls groups ever) and a Destiny's Child is that neither one was a vehicle to make a sole individual the star. Beyonce was Destiny's Child. The group, in all honesty, never broke up because it wasn't really a group to begin with. She sung everything, she did everything. You might as well say she has 8 studio albums.

Very good post junky... Not to mention They were very manufactured and had no personality. They did replace alot of members through (which supports this fact even more because backup singers didnt really matter just as long as Beyonce was front and center)
I think TLC is technically the best modern day girl group as well (their songs, creativity, contributions) and En Vogue comes close second.

Wilson Phillips were pretty good. I liked their harmonies. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Definitely, definitely. TLC, then En Vogue.

TLC doesn't hold a candle to En Vogue IMO. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Vocal wise no they dont. They both have strong catalogues. I think at the end of the day it boils down to preference. I pick TLC because they embodied alot more than just vocals and music. They were creative in their performances and music videos. They were more in tune with pop culture than En Vogue in my opinion. That doesnt make them better than them but more specifically the accolades Destiny Childs get TLC really deserves.

I think the TLC/En Vogue comparison is hard to resist, "they both have strong catalogues." And TLC is "no En Vogue," but is apples to oranges at the end of the day.

There where a lot of big girl groups... but yeah En Vogue & TLC are the only really remebered one's from what i can see. I never hear many of the 90's Girl groups played anymore... but TLC & En Vogue always pop up Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

En Vogue VS. TLC is like watching The Supremes VS. Salt-N-Pepa.

I agree with all of this. I think vocally, Brownstone comes close to EnVogue and thats about it.
Also Beyonce needed DC just as much as they needed her. Beyonce has GROWN to be a great performer and singer. If you look at older footage of their performances she wasnt all that good. I couldnt see her competing with the likes of Britney, Christina, JLo, Janet(the latter two were still hot on the scene), etc by herself back then. She still needed to grow. Even her early solo performances arent all that great but NOW she does the damn thing lol

That's your opinion. En Vogue always had the better vocals but TLC had everything. I love TLC more and I'm not afraid to admit it. En Vogue's awesome too though.

I agree and I like both TLC and EnVogue. They may not have been vocal powerhouses but their voices fit their songs. I was never a DC fan for some reason, I liked some of their music though. I still remember owning the fanmail cassett LOL

She still performs like shes trying out for a talent show contest and she conveys no emotion whatsoever. Shes like a robot, not a natural and she still has alot of growing to do.
I think for most people she entertains because she covers general aspects which is singing and incorporating choregraphy even though she isnt much of a dancer but she really isnt someone who was born to entertain.. there is nothing natural about how she performs... I dunno maybe its just me but I have yet to be moved by any of her performances and find them to be average

They were all so pretty... r.ip Left eye

But you have to give it to her... she has grown ALOT. Now compared to the people of today she is a much better performer and she works hard. [Edited 4/9/12 0:04am]

Compared to who exactly?
Because I can name about 5 artist who are of her generation, who are current and who are out today that are MUCH better performers than her
Mint Condition, Jill, D angelo, Erykah Badu, Monae... I havent see all of them live. Ive seen Badu live and she was fantastic.
"Working hard" has nothing to do with this discussion. There artists that work harder than her but you will never hear about them because their not saling gimmicks or bullshit to get played on th radio. With that being said, I think its rather ridiculous to say that just because thats an easy answer to say because she is a popular artist out now.
Im not saying she is "horribe" but I have never found her to be as entertaining as people make her out to be.
Its sad that we have been forced to look at crappy performers and listen to shitty music that we have to LOWER the standards of what makes a good entertainer or what makes a good artist. I dont think the standards should be lowered just because of the overall condition of the industry. Im so fucking tired of that bullshit, fuck the bullshit [Edited 4/9/12 0:20am]

En Vogue still gets my vote. All could hold it down, they had serious vocals, dance moves, & they gave a show. I liked TLC's party jams but I never took them too seriously. Yeah they were fun, but their voices weren't hardly on the level of En Vogue. My ex called it talk-singing. They came out looking like the Rugrats or something too, bandaids, & clown clothes.

I think vocally the only group that can touch En Vogue is Brownstone now them girls could sing hearing them live they sound just like the record. I love En Vogue and TlC. I actually really miss Zhane that is one of my fav. groups

Now don't get it twisted. I always liked En Vogue AND TLC.
But both groups admitted themselves that TLC were never trying to be like En Vogue. En Vogue always compared themselves to The Supremes, while TLC compared themselves to Salt-N-Pepa & Bell Biv Devoe.

This reminds me of when I was DONE with Tom Joyner's Morning Circus or whatever it's called when they asked: "Who is the Best Girl Group" and it was a battle between The Supremes, En Vogue and Destiny's Child and they were pretty much saying "well the Supremes ain't even in it", I was THROUGH!
