Too many haters

HEY YO!

I dont understand some of the posts on here.

The amount of Alica Keys bashing on here is ridiculous.

Her peers all say that she is very talanted including Prince. How come on here people seem to think she is not talanted...how many records have you sold? A big fat 0.

Ive seen Alicia Keys live twice in Melbourne and she has put on wonderful shows and IMO she is right up there with the many great acts I have seen live.

I think some people on here read their little gossp sites and read about her personal life and homewrecker and then they have a personal grudge on her which extends to bashing her talent as well.

Like every artist not all her stuff has been great but there is no denying her talent.

The same goes with John Legend...Ive seen him live as well and he was great...I dont particually prefer him over other artists like Van Hunt or Musiqsoulchild but he is very talanted and he put on a decent show and every time I have seen him on TV he has been good.

I think some people on here need to get off their seats and go and buy a soccer ball or a tennis racquet and get outdoors instead of bashing artists.

This also extends to the Prince bashing....complaining about how Prince has Andy Allo in his band and that she is not talanted bla bla....Prince has been in the business for decades im sure he knows who is good and what direction he wants to take his music....and im pretty sure he dosent give a toss.

Sorry for my rant but please guys lol

Seriously what is wrong with Alicia Keys...does she sing one octive less for your standard, is her songwriting too crap for your liking (insert Yellow Submarine lyrics and Fly Away lyrics here)

What next guys Pro Wrestling is getting too real?

It's funny that you sign off with using a pro wrestling comment as Keyes and Legend are seemingly just as manufactured as the wrestling industry. Their last names are no accident but all too obvious marketing tools. I think a lot of hate stems from them coming out the gate manufactured as great artists when they never had any previous albums to back it up. And them playing instruments were supposed to be meaningful in this day and age of the bullshit artist which isnt saying much. Not much innovation or proficiency in their musicanship and writing to match the hype. Then again all thats really needed is "a good beat that's easy to dance to."

So by your logic Michael Eugene Archer, Steven Demetre Georgiou and Harry Roger Webb should have recorded their music under their birth names to avoid being tools to the marketing trade.

When Alicia was young she was introduced to Peter Edge from Arista records who was impressed by her musicianship which was far greater than similar artists Peter Edge has seen at that age.

Im not even sure I understand what you mean by them playing instruments were supposed to be meaningful in this day and age? Please elaborate on that.

Nah because it seems all you want to do is argue an answer to a question you posed..or a criticsm rather. Shouldn't have bothered.

Anyone mainstream that was introduced post-2000 has a pretty high chance of getting bashed on this board.

I enjoy both Alicia Keys (her first two albums were flawless, the next two were slightly above average) and John Legend and appreciate their work, as well as a few other mainstream artist.

Maybe it's the demographics of the board and things not being done the way they use to be done. Oh well, both will continue to make music and be unbothered.

Not only in regards to Alicia Keys, John Legend, or Prince, much of the love and respect that many here seemed to feel and express for one another at one time, now appears to be gone from these forums, replaced by what resembles a certain contempt.

I would agree; I think Alicia Keys and John Legend are both very talented, and feel they'll both be around for a long time making music. I've never cared much for Alicia's personality, but I've never held that against her obvious talent.

I think it's ridiculous when people hate somebody because they're popular, or "over-hyped". The same happens with artists like The Beatles, MJ, U2, Radiohead, etc.. all the time. I don't mind that people don't like Alicia Keys or John Legend, but it seems most people's reason for not liking them is because they're "over-hyped"... who cares how hyped or popular they are? and why? I hate when people think that The Beatles either have to be the greatest band ever, or an overrated piece of shit band.. why do you have to dislike somebody just because you don't love them as much as some other people do?

I enjoyed Alicia's first two albums a great deal and while i've never seen her live, I know people who have seen her in concert and they told me she was among the best they've ever seen. I do like her but wouldn't say i'm a huge fan. I think her voice for one is overrated. She strains a lot and is not a very good vocalist to me but she makes up for it with her music. I do enjoy quite a bit of her music and would like to see her live someday.

People use that phrase a lot, because it's easy to hide the fact that you actually give a fuck when you're sitting behind a machine and nobody can see that you secretly want to cry and throw things.

You're mad. You give a fuck. And you're in RAGE.

Haters do exist.

But the problem with most message boards is they tend to use the term "hater" to loosely. It seems everytime someone disagrees with the popular opinion someone is a hater which I find to be immature because it shows the other person cant back up their point intelligently so they instead just call you a hater.

I feel someone is a hater if there being overly disrespectful all the time and bashing mindlessly for no reason. There is no reason for the bash, its malicious and its said to stir up an agruement. I think thats a hater but if a person is presenting rational points in a mature way, then thats their opinion. Everyone has a right to their opinion.

The problem comes in when people state their opinion as fact. We don't have to think Alicia Keys or anyone else has talent. We don't have to like them. I have never gotten the hype over her. I don't care for her and the only reason I'm making a coment at all is because I get tired of defending an opinion here. Musical talent is subjective. Millions of people buy garbage music.

An opinion is one thing but using excuses like an artist has changed their name for marketing or is manafactured or because they have something in their personal life that a person does not agree with or they dont like the musicians that Prince uses in his band...etc

All of a sudden they dont have talent because a person does not like the way they became famous or whether they are a homewrecker or not.

Fact is that Alicia Keys has sold many millions of albums plus has respect from her peers like Stevie Wonder and Prince to name a few...and has even been namechecked by Bob Dylan in a song which is rare from Bob.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but one cant just say she has no talent just because someone dosent like her.

If I have to critise Alicia I would say that IMO her albums after her first 2 are not up to par and that she tends to think she is a gangsta with her sometimes over the top New York accent...LESS DO DISS....girl its Let's Do This.......sorry im from Australia and not sure if its called New York Accent lol...but that still dosent mean she has no talent.....sorry we get The View here and I can't stand it when Joy speaks...I swear everytime I hear that accent I wanna throw something at my TV...

I think ill just go and put a shrimp on the barbi and have a VB now lol

Now I pretty much agree with all you said but this I dont.

This is a very tired excuse. Just because legends or very credible artists give current artists a hi-five does not justify their talent or validate it. So what if Stevie Wonder likes Alicia Keys it doesnt mean a consumer has to buy her music. So what she sold millions of records, it doesnt necessarily mean her music is good. I think Alicia Keys is talented as well and find her to be better than her other mainstream counterparts ex. Beyonce, Rihanna etc. but I do see how someone can find her overrated (which she is to an extent) and I've never thought she was a great singer but I do appreciate her first two albums, songwriting and musicianship. I do appreciate that she is a pretty lady and she still dresses classy and doesnt sell a "sexy image" instead of quality music.

I think what an artist does in their private life shouldnt affect their talent or their music.

Agree with your comment.

I think what I was trying to say is that...actually im not sure anymore what I was trying to say lol.

I still believe it still matters if an artist of Stevies credibility endorses a then up n coming artist.

I mean you could argue it from both angles....Elton John publically saying that Lewis Taylors debut album was the best thing he has heard all year...someone like Elton giving props to Lewis is what id take notice of...even though I heard Lewis Taylor's album 6 months prior....but Eltons reputation would make me go out and source Lewis if i had not heard him otherwise.

If I had never heard of Alica Keys but I read of Stevie and Prince giving her props i would go the extra effort and go and have a listen to what the hype is all about and then make my own choice.

On the other hand Usher was hyping up Justin Bieber .... now I would probably go and hear what all the hype was about but Biebers music does not appeal to me but im not going to go and say he has no talent because I do not like his music.

This extends to beyond music and in every day life.

We get jobs based on people recommendations. We make choices on what we want to buy or eat based on reviews and stuff

Look at Formula 1. Ayrton Senna was the greatest racing driver of all time. In an interview he stated if you think im good wait till you see my nephew Bruno. Now Bruno is in formula one....one could argue because of his surname...but the fact is that Bruno is never going to be as good as Ayrton but that does not mean that he has no talent...it takes a certain level of talent to make it to the lower formulas to get into formula 1. So one could say ohh Bruno is crap he has no talent just because they do not like him.

So getting back to Stevie giving a hi five to Alicia...Stevie who is a musician last time I checked he wouldnt go and give a hi 5 to say T-Pain or Baha Men....he would give props to someone who he thinks is talanted and once could argue pass the torch kinda...im not saying Alicia is the messiah or anything but what im saying is that Stevie gave her probs as did Prince and Bob Dylan and those guys are not rejects from Idol or anything lol.

Santana has given props to Prince and Michael in the past and wished for them to collaborate together. Santana also recently gave big props to Lady Gaga (check his latest Montreux bluray). Now one could argue that its ok for Prince and Michael to receive props cos we like them...but just cos Santana gave props to gaga dosent mean she is talanted.

Miles Davis gave big props to Prince but at the same time he hated big time on Wynton Marsalis does that mean that we should hate on Wynton cos Miles gave him heat...no

Anyways I think Ive confused everyone on here as well as myself and probably contridicted myself a few times lol...

Cheers
