If I had never heard of Alica Keys but I read of Stevie and Prince giving her props i would go the extra effort and go and have a listen to what the hype is all about and then make my own choice.

Well thats your opinion. Everyone is different. Michael Jackson my favorite artist liked mostly artists that I think are God awful T-pain, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, basically everyone thats out now but I never attempted to make the effort to listen more to them just because he complimented them. Furthermore I highly doubt he thought what they did was groundbreaking or something that would change the world of pop music.

Stevie Wonder also did a song with Drake, so I guess going by your logic you will listen to Drake more just because Stevie Wonder did a song with him? Thats not good logic to me personally.

On the other hand Usher was hyping up Justin Bieber .... now I would probably go and hear what all the hype was about but Biebers music does not appeal to me but im not going to go and say he has no talent because I do not like his music.

So what makes that any different from Stevie Wonder hyping up Drake? eek

You have your reasoning all messed up. Whether Usher or Stevie Wonder hypes up Bieber it still wouldnt matter. Another artists opinion on another artist shouldnt validate whether you find them more or less talented which is what Im kinda getting from your posts.

If that is something you use to validate what music you listen to than thats okay but not everyone relies on the opinions of other artist to determine who they find talented or etc.

This extends to beyond music and in every day life.

Your right people do make opinions based on the views of others but that still doesnt justify a persons talent or music catalogue in this particular case. Prince could like the Sesame Street catalogue it doesnt mean that its classic or genius because because Prince is. There are alot of legendary artists who admire less talented musicians than themselves. I find it odd but its nothing wrong with that. To be honest, its kinda hard to say what these real legends REALLY think because their not going to trash these artists publicly. Thats why I dont know why yall take everything these artist say seriously, I dont. razz lol

So getting back to Stevie giving a hi five to Alicia...Stevie who is a musician last time I checked he wouldnt go and give a hi 5 to say T-Pain or Baha Men....he would give props to someone who he thinks is talanted and once could argue pass the torch kinda...im not saying Alicia is the messiah or anything but what im saying is that Stevie gave her probs as did Prince and Bob Dylan and those guys are not rejects from Idol or anything lol.

Yea but that doesnt mean EVERYONE in the galaxy has to like them. lol Everyone has a right to their opinion. Furthermore I highly doubt they would rank her on the same level of talent as they would each other.. Lets be serious now. Having talent is a BIG difference from being called genius or a innovator which sometimes Alicia gets which is a MAJOR exaggeration. She is very mediocre compared to them but standing next to Beyonce's body of work yea I guess she would be considered a genius! lol

Also Stevie Wonder is a very very very sweet person. He never openly bashes anyone even if that was how he really felt, he would never speak it openly.

The problem comes in when people state their opinion as fact.

I guess the way ive worded my views has given the wrong idea. The post was originally about people who hate on an artist for no real reason...i guess we are going around in circles lol so I guess we just have to agree to dissagree lol....

I dont base my music listening to whoever recommends an artist...personally I tend to read about artists and find out who they were influenced by and go on my way and learn something new. I prefer those huge big History of Music books that I just spend hours flicking through...much the same as allmusic and (when right) wikipedia...one can spend hours clicking on links learning about stuff...I started one night reading about Bruce Springsteen and clicked and clicked and got Robert Palmer and The Power Station then ended the night reading about the korean war...bloody internet lol

Since we were speaking about Stevie...when I saw him at Rod Laver a few years back at the start he was being helped on stage by a hot sexy lass in a black short dress...and I said to my cuzin I bet ya Stevie is tappin dat ass....I felt so bad when towards the end of the concert he introduced that lady as his daughter...LOL

Speaking of the backing singers does anyone know who the short lady is..she is mega fine.
