I like the Fela Kuti vibe, a good addition to the mix. The other songs are also out there musically, but it feels very natural. They remind me some of Talking Heads and 70s Miles.

Good stuff. cool I need to check out the rest of this album.

I think most of Tony Allen's recent (often collaborative) stuff has been good, tbh. The previous collabo with Damon Albarn produced a great track, and the album it headed up (Home Cooking) is a favourite of mine. The incorporation of a UK hip hop flavour on that album works well for me; better, I think, than the more obvious turn to neo-soul, which I find often brings an oddly conservative vibe to proceedings.

Btw, if you like the more avant-garde, 'art school' vibe of RJ&TM, you'll probably enjoy his album Inspiration Information with Jimi Tenor. Some good stuff on there, like this filthy little number...

cool
