Any list without the Beatles is biased. No one has so many great songs as the Fab Four. Jimi Hendrix

I would include Queen, Prince, Michael Jackson/The Jacksons, and Elton John, probably Eric Clapton, too.

I don't think my mother can name 2 Beatles songs, and she was around when they were actually together. Then again she doesn't listen to anything non soul/R&B/blues. My grandfather used to say anything that wasn't blues was noise. He didn't even like soul music. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I understand that musical tastes are different and not everyone likes the Beatles, but making a list of the 20-30 greatest music catalogs and do not include the Beatles - strange for me. It's like Jimi Hendrix did not include in the list of great guitarists or Tupac did not include in the list of great rappers.

It has nothing to do with liking or disliking The Beatles. There's different cultures/races, and so a lot of people only listen to what they're exposed to. Most of my relatives don't really listen to anything but R&B or blues (or rap for the younger ones). Some listen to jazz. There's a lot of Mexicans where I live, and many of the older Mexicans would put Lil Joe or Vicente Fernandez over the acts people are posting in this thread. The Beatles are not that big of a deal in Africa either. If you're going by magazines, books, and media, well the major ones are mostly written by white males, so of course they're going to write about white rock groups and maybe acts of other races that were purchased in a big way by whites (Jimi Hendrix). Just because someone is known by more people or sold a lot doesn't necessarily make them better than somebody who didn't sell much and/or little known. It just means they had a good marketing department. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton
