Madonna - Express Yourself

You can't be posting this without posting this version!
One of my favorite Madge songs. Love both versions of the song. Although I wish Madonna would just come out and admit that the chords for Express Yourself weren't invented by her either.

I've always preferred this remix of Express Yourself over the album version (which is a good track, too). I remember buying the Like A Prayer album in junior high and getting ticked off because the remix wasn't on it. I mistakenly assumed the remix, which Madonna performed at the VMAs, was the original version. [Edited 3/10/12 22:25pm] Hey...

Always preferred the album versions of all the singles. Immaculate Collection has some good mixes that I prefer over the originals (Into the Groove, Lucky Star, Holiday), though.

We couldn't disagree more. The album version of "Express Yourself" is crap compared to the remix and I can't even describe how dire that remix of "Into the Groove" is. Ugh! And "Holiday"? Vote for the original soulful, r&B original! Madonna's best is always the rhythm and blues I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

I agree."Express Yourself" is one of the few times when I prefer the remix to the original version.

vs.
The main keyboard riff is more prominent in the remix. Plus the intro is better than the spoken parts being over the music like on the album version! The remix is like the basis of the "Into the Hollywood Groove" track too.
vs.
Keyboards are more consistent and professional sounding. The mix is beefier; the snares hit harder and the vocals are a bit less shrill. There's less reverb on her vocals in the IC version too, which I really like as well.
I also prefer the "Borderline" remix.

Album version: inferior, but the organic rock/dance-pop fussion kinda flows with the rest of the songs of the album, the Single version is superior, but it sounds very different, it sounds like two years ahead of its time, very 90-91...
Immaculate version: I like the intro, "baby, b-b-b-b-baby", but the Q-Sound production was dreadful; not as bad as the Like a Prayer Q-remix though... Unnecessary remix...
video: amazing, Fincher's finest work, in my opinion
and I specially like the Girlie Show Tour version; she should play this song more anyway...I can't believe she ingored EY during the Confessions Tour..."yeah right, fans prefer Isaac, Music Inferno and Paradise (Not for Me) instead of EY"

Well, at least we agree on "Borderline." It's funny you mentioned "professional sounding," because I think the "Holiday" remix is an unprofessional-sounding mess. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
