Ron Tyson ~ Got My Swagger Back {New song} You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Lawd where do you find this stuff?
Seriously, the man can still sing, love the flow of his voice, but that song, my goodness, that's stuff my mother and her boyfriend would dance to at the Mason BYOB parties. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I don't ignore the veteran performers like most people. There's a record store where I live that carry new releases by older acts that don't get much media attention. What a homemade video.

The music video isn't important. Why spend a bunch of money to film something that looks fancy that's not going to be shown anywhere except the juke joints, if that? The music video is all part of the appeal of it all.

You must be a teenager. The main audience that would buy this doesn't care about music videos. Videos are usually paid for by record companies, and a sure way to get in the hole as they're charged back to the act. That was a joke but...honestly?

I didn't know it was a joke. Humor usually doesn't translate printed out, especially without a smiley. Younger folks tend to think music videos are important. Most older acts don't film videos at all, especially R&B/soul ones. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. Did I not put a smiley there? There was supposed to be one there.

There was one in the "homemade video" comment (which might be laughing at the video), but not in the other one. Hmm, I don't think it's a thing that people ignore veteran performers, I think it's rather that they don't get the exposure for many people to notice that they are still releasing things. Even though the video was definitely homemade, I thought it was kind of cute actually. You can tell he put a lot of hard work into it. I'd rather see that than him trying to act like he's in his late 20's again and looking like a T-Pain reject. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Maybe the sound and style of the song and video wouldn't appeal to a younger audience, but I don't think Ron is trying to. He most likely doesn't have the money to make a record (or video) with a really high production quality. In most cases, older performers don't get attention unless they do duets with young singers or rappers. I doubt that people like Ron Isley, Carlos Santana, Tony Bennett, & Charlie Wilson would be getting much radio airplay or media attention otherwise. PBS has specials for older acts, but it's only for their big hits, not for any new stuff they might have out.
