Trey tried though. He was just only paying homage to Prince in his own little way. He later a few months later met Prince on the show "The View", when Prince came on there to give all the host (including a star struck Sherri Shepherd) tickets to his upcoming mega show in NY, 4 the mega successful W2A tour... Trey just happen to be per4ming on that show that day & Prince gave him good advice backstage. So Prince obviously wasn't bothered of Trey's lackluster cover of PR on the BET Awards..

Please. He can "try" all he wanted to, he still BOMBED. bored2 lol

This is sort of off topic but I always loved this song. Very underrated. Great message. But nobody ever talks about it.

heart

Janet's political messages took a back seat to the sexy new image. But I so much more enjoy the album cuts and b-sides than the singles from the janet. album.

Love it. I mentioned it in that other thread about Janet receiving the racist doll.

Janet is deserving if she ever receives it before or after other legends. I really could care less either way. BET really could care less about honoring the real black legends and icons. They are fixated on whats current and ratings. That is why legends like Tina and Aretha didnt want to put up with their bullshit. They do things like that soley for ratings.

The fact that BET only give the awards to who is willing to come.. shows just how irrelevant the award and the show is.

Janet was actually speaking out on her identity and injustices in the country and in the world even more so during the janet. era if you read her magazine interviews.

Ah yes. One of my faves! She sounds beautiful on the verses. Love the effects they used on her voice, especially in the first verse. The message still rings true to this day. Love the urgency of it and you can't go wrong with the Chuck D assist.

I gotta feeling whenever we get some new music from her, she'll have something significant to say. Maybe not a full album worth but definitely some conscious cuts. At least I hope so smile She shouldn't lack inspiration. cool

This is true. During the janet. era, moreso than any other era I think, she spoke her mind in interviews and told it like it was, be it about family or other artists. Her persona seemed more open back then.

LOL it would be nice. I think as she's gotten older, she's just more guarded during interviews, unlike LaToya, who's more of an open book.

Prince - "Stay the hell away from my songs you billy goat sounding niglet!"

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I too think it would be nice to experience that again. I blame the superbowl fallout. LOL! Na, seriously, she was damn near declared "Public Enemy #1" after that. The girl hadn't been the same since. If I'm not mistaking, that was the first time since 1986 that she had to deal with such a negative reaction. It probably fucked with her for a minute.

Granted, she was never the open book like her sister, but she seemed to have retreated after 2004. Most people seem to get more comfortable with themselves as they grow older and become less guarded and self conscious. Maybe that will kick in sooner or later. LOL! Still love her either way...

She also is a broken record and seems like she doesnt care to speak up sometimes neutral Love Janet but she should just stop doing interviews until she feels more confortable again...

Prime example:

Compare this 1993 interview...

...to this 2011 Piers Morgan interview.

The differences are there. She's more aloof and guarded these days (could be because of what went down with the SB--could be some other reason). Back in 1993, she wasn't afraid to tell it like it was--in print or on TV. That side of her lasted up until The Velvet Rope era. I noticed that around All For You, her quietness was coming back.

some peeps have moments when they talk more & more open & then they become guarded other times. ( that is how I am)That 93 era was a different era for Janet. Which had a lot to do with the crowd she was hanging with at the time & the movie "Poetic Justice" open her up into a different world & different more open sassy person(Like she is behind closed doors). Plus having a sister trashing the family is enough to make anyone become more outspoken to protect their family. I know I would..

I know one thing sure, her body looks insane in that dress with Piers Morgan.

I'm glad yal like New Agenda too. Should have been a single in my book but I can understand why it wasn't. More people should be aware of it. I played it for my father yesterday and he said he never heard it. Downloaded it right after.
