I love the bass & drum tracks on the studio version of this song, particularly the "Love Gun (12" Version)" on the 2010 Remastered "Fire It Up" CD. This song is some very serious Funk.

Rick was cool and all but this is the one, true "Love Gun:"

Hate to say it but I agree with rialb on that one. According to Pyro John (Rick's special effects guy) Rick was a KISS fan but he would deny it if you asked him.
It's cool. Everyone borrows from someone.

I saw KISS in concert back in 1977 and LOVED IT! I wasn't exactly a fan of their music (although I loved "Beth" and a few other songs), but I was a HUGE fan of their costumes and elaborate special effects. I was particularly fond of their boots. After the concert, I recognized the parallels between their stage show and Parliament/Funkadelics stage show, as I first witnessed the landing of the Mothership that same year. The live shows of KISS and Parliament/Funkadelic were both spectacular and surreal.
Rick James' live shows were nothing to dismiss either. "Love Gun" by KISS may have charted higher, and they may have had a song AND album by that title, but I would still count Rick James' "Love Gun" as one of TWO "true" Love Gun's, as the two versions were unique and separated by genre.

I think it is fair to say that Rick was a fan of Kiss, at least visually.
Here is Gene circa 1979 and his custom Axe bass: [img:$uid]http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/24300000/kiss-gene-simmons-1980-axe-bass-kiss-24397173-500-693.jpg[/img:$uid]
And here is Rick on the cover of his Throwin' Down album circa 1982: [img:$uid]http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_qMlKL6v2DKE/TO8OWZDN1II/AAAAAAAAAw8/fZYvYxI5tNI/s1600/Rick%2BJames%2B%25281982%2529%2B-%2BThrowin%2527%2BDown%2B%2528A%2529.jpg[/img:$uid]

I think that's a fair statement.

This song was a highlight for me on the Street Songs tour. I went back & bought all his earlier albums after hearing it... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.
