I've been a huge fan of Dr.Dre since the Chronic album. It was the first rap album i bought and the closest i came to rap before that was Monie Love (she was cool). As I don't come from an english-speaking country it was the melody and the beat which hooked me not the lyrics (now that i can understand them fully i find them pretty interesting too). The whole death-row era (for which he is responsible in a great extend was great (Doggystyle, Dogg Pound, Above The Rim, Murder Was The Case etc). His comeback album "Aftermath" was a bit dissapointing i admit but he did make a "comeback" in the late 90s by discovering Eminem (overrated yes but still one of the greatest), Truth Hurts, producing "Family Affair" and releasing two superb albums "2001" and "The Wash".Now he seems to have done it again. He produced the best rap track in ages "In Da Club" by 50 cent. Along with Prince, Madonna, TLC, Bjork and a few others he is my fave artist and like the ones mentioned above (except TLC) a genious (each of the above artist is a genious in his/her own way/I don't mean that Madonna is a musical genious-anyway the word genious to me is an overstatement and i use as such). So what do you think about Dre?

Dr.Dre is one of the greatest hip-hop producers ever. Certainly one of the hardest, grittest and stankiest{as in funky}. I still think his production on NWA's last album Efil4zaggin are some of the hardest, meanest, nastiest, funkiest beats in the history of hip-hop. The cartoonish violence advocated, as well as, the misogynist lyrics{I mean extreme hatred of women} brings this album down a bit. However, the production on this album is masterful. People talk about Kobe Bryant being in the zone the past 1 month of so, but Dr.Dre has been in the zone over a decade. His beats and style of production is hard and rough... yet accessible.

Oh yeah Death Row Greatest Hits is on my cd player all the time as well. I love "What Would You Do" (probably the only great song on the cd i didn't hear before bying it). Also the Xzibit cd is currently big on my player (although it's not a great cd, with every play it sounds better). Can't wait for 50 cent's "Get Rich" to be released here

What the hell do u people hear in this song? I swear, I feel like Alice in the looking glass sometimes. How is this a banger? The guy raps like he has a mouth full of cheetos and the beat is dull as fuck! As a matter of fact Dre's beats ( and whack ass keys) have been weak for sometime now. I think Battle Cat was the driving force behind the "G Funk" sound if you ask me. I'll take DJ Quick's production any day over Dre.

He would dj and later perform with his "World Class Wreckin' Crew" at clubs I dee jayed at around the same time. Andre was a cool cat but he was nothing more than a dee jay like the rest of us. Maxx I agree with most of what you said about Dre and Quick but I would rather focus on the quality of their work and not sales per se. Quick as produced some of the best hip hop albums of all time IMO. From his debute all the way to balance and options, quick has come strong. The first 2nd 2 None album is another great quick project. Add to that "Let's Get Down" with the Tonies and I'll stand by my claim that Quick is the only rapper out there I feel has real musical skills.

seriously, though... if you haven't heard "o.g. original gangsta," you are missing out on possibly the greatest gangsta rap album to come out of that era... i like the "ruthless records" compilation a lot because it collects a lot of the lesser known tunes and skips over some of the stuff that everyone knows like "crossroads" by cypress hill & "fuck tha police" by nwa...

In Da Club is just great and sounds excellent in a club. It just makes me wanna dance. When I hear music i don't usually think much about the lyrics or if the singer has a good voice or rhyming. If it sounds good and can touch you then it's a good song. And that's just the case with "In Da Club"
