112 Reunion with all 4 members announced Daron of 112 has announced that finally all 4 original members Q, Mike, Slim, & Daron have reunited. I guess they will go foward with it this time since Slim is finally on board. He announced the release of his third solo album Reinvention this month and after that the new 112 album titled Reconcile and the title single. He was just in the studio with Mike laying down vocals for the new song. He said everyone is down including Slim so I guess he decided it was best to reunite with his brothers instead of staying solo like he said. Before the new album Slim will release his 2nd solo album Cruise Control & Q will release his solo album Q Parker: The Manual. They are putting together a tour & now have a twitter & facebook page for the group @Official112

I'll always have that fantastic debut, "It's Over Now," and "Anywhere," but I'm not sure a 112 reunion would go anywhere... "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

No hate, but they weren't that huge in their heydey of the mid 90s to the early 2000s. And you no that era of fans don't support their artist. This will go no where unless they can get Drake and Lil Wayne on the album. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Sorry but the "fantastic debut" you speak of was only worth it for the singles including the non biggie Only You which is so hard to find now. And it's a great example of everything Vainandy complains about when it comes to slowed down r&b music
Things spiced up with Anywhere and the hit singles from the third album. They had beautiful voices, but were simply singles artists and not albums ones. I do remember seeing them open for Janet years ago though and it was a nice show. I would definitely buy a greatest hits if they released one.

alphastreet said: Sorry but the "fantastic debut" you speak of was only worth it for the singles including the non biggie Only You which is so hard to find now. I don't know what you're talking about. "Call My Name," "Can I Touch You," "Now That We're Done," and "I Can't Believe" are as good as the singles and "This Is Your Day" is easily the album's best track. The interludes are all on point, particularly "Sexy You." Then there's their scarily accurate Jodeci impression in "Keep It Real"... I love how they played homage to the two huge groups of the previous generation ("Now That We're Done" takes its title and part of its chorus from Boyz II Men's "Uhh Ahh"). It's a great album all around; sadly, they were never able to match that consistency with their subsequent albums. But they hit it out of the park their first time out. In comparison, I'd say it's a better overall listen than Dru Hill's debut, but not quite as good as Playa's. BTW, why the heck would you want "Only You" without Biggie? That's my biggest complaint. They should've included the original mix with Biggie to go with the remix with Biggie and Mase. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I liked 112, but they were probably the 4th best R&B group at that time. I would take Dru Hill (the best,) Playa (must underrated,) and Jagged Edge (So So Def) before. The group Ideal out of Houston was cool too and Sons of Funk from Master P's No Limit Records were out at that time too. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Ya'll go read up on 112' a achievements before you say they wasn't an important group. They may not be the best of all the artists out there but they still and are still dope, They had great music and some maybe questionable to ya'll cause they wanted to have fun with their music as well.
I guess folks never took the time to listen the group and those brothers can blow, All ya'll heard was Slim's high voice and probably why but listen to Q, Mike, & Daron those brothers have those right tenor & baritone voices and the group as a whole can harmonize. Believe it or not members of Commission were there vocal mentors when they was known as Forte as well as Boyz II Men. They was known for turning churches out. If you get away from their more popular songs and get into their gospel fused songs you can see what I'm saying.

They was decent. I'd still take Dru Hill over them. PRINCE: Always and Forever

I agree....Slim had all the leads, but to me he wasn't the only member who could sing.
Anyway.....If this project is anything like the other 90's R&B "reunion" projects, I'll pass.

I don't know who's the guy singing lead on this one but I remember liking this interlude from their first joint. Kind of remind me of a weaker Johnny Gill but he should have led more songs imo....
Slim's voice was annoying to me after awhile. Sounded like a lame Babyface impression
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Haha Slim couldn't help it he was not trying to be Babyface. That's just how deep it could go. The one on lead on that interlude is Mike the church vocals he & Daron brings the church but Mike's voice is a baritone a bit deeper than Daro. Daron is a tenor who can do falsetto & Q is the smooth tenor. Slim is the high tenor falsetto. He can't help the way he sings like Ralph Tresvant of New Edition he was born prematurely so both have natural high voices due to their vocals cords being fully developed long after they were born. Same with Eddie Kendricks.

Yeah I'm a fan of them and others too
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I wasn't a fan but I just remembered that interlude standing out for me and wondering why Mike (now that I know his name) didn't do more leads. They probably thought Slim had a more marketable voice/style.
So you're saying that Slim, Ralph and Eddie have high pitched voices due to premature births?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yep considering Mike did do most of the leads when they would perform at church functions & talent shows before they were known as 112. They did a interview and said it was Diddy's idea but they were all to sing lead but Slim stood out cause his voice was more different. They sang lead on songs honestly leading like on Cupid etc was right for Slim but songs like that interlude, Missing You, Player etc were meant for Mike to shine
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yep and it's funny how they have naturally gifted voices like that. I know someone personally who went through a difficult birth like that and sings with a high falsetto tenor as well. Being from Alabama were some of the Tempts are originally from I heard from people who knew them as well and said Eddie's was a permature baby too & Ralph from New Edition's story about being premature are in many bios. I heard that Melvin's voice been deep since he was a kid haha
