Any Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal fans here?

He's far more than just one of Axl Roses hired hands.

His solo stuff is epic:

Ah yes, Mr Blumenthal. A lovely fella who I've had the privelge of meeting. Always has lots of time for his fans.

And yeah, a lot of his solo stuff is brilliant. He can shred, and he does with aplomb (which keeps the guitar wank mag fanboys happy, I guess). But he almost wothout fail anchors his solos in great songs. Which can be

Funny -

Incisive -

Beautiful -

or Hardcore -

At one of his many meet and greets, in London at the end of 2008. I think it was to promote one of his new signature guitars. And he still does as many as he can, even though he is now in a super important rockband.

Glad to see some love on here for Ron. Although everyone always talks about Normal and Abnormal (which are both great albums) his whole back catalogue is pretty solid.

I PM'd him once on his official message board, asking if he could write me out some guitar TAB for one of his GNR solos and he did it. How many other lead guitarists in a major rock group would do that??

Hey cool, I thought we were the only ones here who dug Mr Ron.

RE The Bumblefoot guitar in your old post - I remeber seeing that thing at a Guns show in '06 and thinking 'WTF'??? When he used the whammy bar, a pair of bee wings used to come out of the sides of the body nuts

Apparently that guitar literally fell apart while he was in the middle of a solo during a Guns show in Europe. He now uses less outlandish creations, like the double neck fretted/fretless axe in the picture above, or a Les Paul.

I know what you meanabout him not taking himself too seriously -the only other Guitarist I can think of who combined chops with humour is Frank Zappa (not suggesting that Bumblefoot has the same compositional range as Zappa, but I do think they are similar in that respect).

No po-faced shredder would get up and play the Pink Panther theme every night as thier 'bitchin' solo showcase:

And I know that the new G n'R doesn't get much love around here, but here is a good example of his contribution to Chinese D. His fretless solo about 3/4 isa fucking monster:

Fuck yeah! Shacklers Revenge is a monster of a song, and Ron's solo is insane. I also love his crazy-fast tapping at the end of the song too.

This is one of my all time favourite rock songs ever.
