Thank goodness Mother Washington recorded songs from Bessie Smith songbook. Those recordings kept Smith contribution to music very much alive. My favorite song from Smith songbook that Washington's sings.... "Black Water Blues".

Yes... Multiple husbands and I think she had some drug use but her story is interesting. She had one hell of a voice thats for sure! | |

I don't think there will be a biopic eventful enough to portray such a large personality like Queenie.
I remember Loretta Divine signing to play her life story back in the 90s, but nothing materialized. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but Loretta even portrayed her in a play once back then which got alot of rave reviews.
I think she goes hand in hand with Sarah Vaughan, being two of the most versatile vocalists that walked this earth. | |
