I actually greatly dislike the whole Achtung Baby album but One, the sappy, love the world ballad by U2 is just a rancid, fly specked, musical diarria nightmare writ whole.

So many people, including critics and other musical icons love this tripe. They actually think this is one of the great songs of all time. What shit. It's actually the worst song of the last thirty years.

Give me Imagine any ole day. Certainly Purple Rain is two million times more affecting.

Joshua Tree was really powerful in the 80s. The non-radio songs are okay; the others I never want to hear again EVER.

I DO think One is truly great, but they've overplayed it. Achtung was just so damn good that it was hard not to hear it way too many times.

I love U2. I love "One". I love "Imagine". I love "Purple Rain" and "Planet Earth".

Though you call it overrated, I've heard tons of people say U2, Achtung Baby and One are terrible. I have a feeling that people wouldn't hate them so much if they weren't so popular.. same as people who constantly hate on Radiohead, The Beatles, etc..

well if u hate U2 overall then i would suggest not listening to anything like this. However they werent the ones that took this song to another level, that was every single other artist that covered it, everyone took this song and ran with it, shit even Prince did it during a few aftershows. As for overrated, thats subjective, i dont agree that Achtung was one of their best albums, but others do. Its a universal statement type song ONE, i mean how can you not get that message, is it better than Imagine, who knows and who cares, some people growing up now dont even know either song and dont care. Purple Rain to me is a great song, BUT cant be universal, because its held to a time, a movie, a moment, yes its classic, but not powerful like that where a world can unite and sing it like a "heal the world" type song.

Now for all time overrated, sorry WE ARE THE FUCKING WORLD is the most, that song is the most overblown nonsense ever!

I think it's a great song despite the chord progression ripped from Marley's No Woman No Cry (trust me, it's there).

Achtung Baby is a great album too.

Young orgers have to remember....before 'One', there...was no 'One'. When it came out it was kinda moving. And Achtung Baby was something we really hadn't heard before. Coming off the heels of Joshua Tree, you can only (try to) imagine how wiggy it all kinda was.

2 years prior to that, wearing spandex bike shorts was also pretty cutting edge. Things move fast these days.
