And supposedly Bono wrote it about how countries hurt each other & we all have to stand together as one and yada yada. I mean i think it's well written & had a good message...
But still very overrated for them :-, but there most overrated songs get all the love.
Kind of like Beautiful day, i love the album it's on & the album deserved teh awards it got. But Beautiful Day is such a song to me & it won all these awards
I felt he was specifically referring to one on one (no pun intended) relationships like marriages or possibly the band (same difference), but how that represented the larger picture of what is wrong with the world
I agree about Beautiful Day, it's nothing more than a solid U2 song. One is much much better.
He was talking about relationships. Not anything about social issues. But U2 did say the song can be interpreted in different ways. I choose to believe the song is about bad relationships.
^ You weren't even born. Of course they made a fuss over it.
I edited because that was the video with just BONO in it (that was the third video they shot)
The one I edited features the one with the band in the studio and in drag.
Matter of fact, Pop-Up Video actually showed all three videos in adjacent parts. I forget which one they showed first.
Strange they shot three videos.
I'm reading they had to do another video because they didn't want people to think they were poking fun at AIDS or whatever the hell was said on the Wiki page of this song...
Timmy... i can't keep hearing that excuse i know i'm a youngin but i still think people still to sensitive back in the day
I did just read the procedes from the song where given to A.I.D.S research so maybe that's where all the talk of the song being about A.I.D.S came from?, and apperently the song was accepted & loved in the gay community cause they thought it was about a son telling his father he is dying of A.I.D.S
Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener
All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen
I never saw that third one of them in drag. Not sure what that is supposed to be all about
I did like the paint job on the top of that car with the strategic black bar/rear window
I often wonder what was the point myself. I'm thinking they got tipsy and said "fuck it, let's just doll up and go all drag, what do you say?" I think I did read that one of the members often used to love to do drag a lot so the other band mates decided to do drag in tribute of him.

It's not even an excuse. It was a different time. You wouldn't have understand anyway. I myself didn't get the big fuss. At four seeing Pete Burns shaking his groove thang was more funny than it was shocking. But it definitely was a "big deal" then.

I can see that, the way Bono writes his stuff it usually can be seen as many different thought's. I mean look people are debating whether it social, about A.I.D.S, about relationships and i even read one site claiming the song is about Jesus

To this day if you told people "A Change Is Gonna Come" was a gospel song or a song about conquering demons inside yourself, you'd be looked on strangely.

Sam Cooke was depressed when he wrote the song. I'm guessing the song was autobiographical though I'm still confused by "I was born by the river in a little tent" but I guess he meant to say he was baptized in a river around some little tent but maybe that's just a metaphor. Anyway, his son had accidentally drowned in the family's swimming pool and he blamed Barbara Cooke (his wife) for his son's death and Sam's alcoholism grew after that. He also was struggling with other issues including trying to deal with his record label SAR and the pressures of trying to be this crossover pop artist while also being accused of betraying his gospel roots so he wrote this song as a means to get back to his original sound and find himself personally.
Bobby Womack was played this song by Sam and when asked what he thought about it, Bobby said something chilly: "that sounds like somebody dying." Sam then decided he wasn't gonna release it until his death.
Months after this, Sam Cooke was found dead in the motel in L.A.

I heard bits and pieces but never knew the entire story like that
Poor Sam, such a talented guy. It was a shame he died young to, it would have been great to see him make tracks throughout the late 60's & onto the 70's

N that is why its a classic song. It speaks to many different people with many different interptations like true art should.

There are usually a lot of different thinking by people, the whole ''JESUS'' Answer has been said about many U2 songs. Many people think mysterious Ways & With Or Without You are about Jesus to.

I actually greatly dislike the whole Achtung Baby album but One, the sappy, love the world ballad by U2 is just a rancid, fly specked, musical diarria nightmare writ whole.
So many people, including critics and other musical icons love this tripe. They actually think this is one of the great songs of all time. What shit. It's actually the worst song of the last thirty years.
Give me Imagine any ole day. Certainly Purple Rain is two million times more affecting.
Shit, Planet Earth is a better song than One. Livin La Vida Loca is better. My moms burnt rice is better.
