Greatest rock band of the last 30 years, and it's not even close. "One" is among their many classics.

Radiohead doesn't have the volume of work or longevity, yet, but they are the only band in the same league.

I was actually wondering the same thing... hmmm It sounds like one of U2's usual humanity songs or something. shrug I also heard the video of them doing the buffalo thing was actually because they got into controversy for the original video (I think they actually shot THREE videos!) of them performing in drag. Apparently it was too homoerotic for MTV. eek

I never heard that it was bout Aids, and according to Wiki "The lyrics, written by lead singer Bono, were informed by the band members' fractured relationships and the German reunification. Although the lyrics ostensibly describe "disunity", they have been interpreted in other ways."

I forgot they did write it because of conflicts within the band... I remember the first time I heard about it when Pop-Up Video played it and talked about what was going on. U2 in fact were this close to breaking up before they recorded the song and ended up staying together after they recorded it.

Yeah, I don't hear anything specific to AIDS, it is just a call for unity.

When it was released the whole Bosnia/Serb conflict was going so that may have given the song some extra relevance.

There ya go wink

And supposedly Bono wrote it about how countries hurt each other & we all have to stand together as one and yada yada. I mean i think it's well written & had a good message...

But still very overrated for them :-, but there most overrated songs get all the love.

Kind of like Beautiful day, i love the album it's on & the album deserved teh awards it got. But Beautiful Day is such a confused song to me & it won all these awards whofarted

I felt he was specifically referring to one on one (no pun intended) relationships like marriages or possibly the band (same difference), but how that represented the larger picture of what is wrong with the world

I agree about Beautiful Day, it's nothing more than a solid U2 song. One is much much better.

^ You weren't even born. lol Of course they made a fuss over it.

I edited because that was the video with just BONO in it (that was the third video they shot)

The one I edited features the one with the band in the studio and in drag.

Matter of fact, Pop-Up Video actually showed all three videos in adjacent parts. I forget which one they showed first.

Strange they shot three videos.

I'm reading they had to do another video because they didn't want people to think they were poking fun at AIDS or whatever the hell was said on the Wiki page of this song...
