I never knew they were the first group to go platinum that credit always seem to belong to RunDMC maybe because of the Raising Hell album. Jalil and Ecstasy deserves much credit as rap lyricists as Chuck D pointed out.
The Raising Hell album made things in hip-hop blurry... that's why sometimes the history of hip-hop comes off as inaccurate. Run DMC is also credited for the first hip-hop album but Kurtis Blow was already doing it and, I can believe, the Sugar Hill artists also released albums. |

I dont think the SugarHill artists ex. The SugarHill Gang ever sold a million albums but their single "Rapper's Delight" sold a million copies. |

Yeah their albums didn't do real well but "Rapper's Delight" according to some is still the best-selling hip-hop single of all time. I kept reading the song did like eight million worldwide. Too sad the two original members of Sugar Hill who was part of composing the lyrics (Wonder Mike & Master Gee) along with Grandmaster Caz (whose lyrics Big Bank Hank stole) still ain't got paid. I wonder if anyone's seen their documentary yet. I'm anxious of how the whole documentary went. |

I didnt know there was a documentary on the group I wouldnt mind looking at it since it was later revealed they werent a real rap group at all the members were just handpicked to record on wax. Grandmaster Caz to me seems like a bitter old man though he is one of the early pioneers of hip-hop, I still think he's pissed off that 'fame' alluded him.
I never forget him sitting on the balcony area on VH1 Honors Hip Hop being honored and he didnt smile and he looked like he couldnt wait for it to be over.
Screw him.

Hmm, sound like they gave him the James Jamerson excuse ("buy your own ticket")... |

Meh, hate to be the ass on the thread, but I'm not really interested in them...yet I'll watch anyway.
Their story intrigues me more because they were painted as the clean cut guys
of hip hop but apparently looking at the clips and promos these guys weren't
as clean cut behind the scenes as we would think. Jalil seems to have gone through
some stuff.
I thought the same thing. He looks much older than he really is Glad to see that the group is back together touring. [Edited 3/18/12 18:12pm] Hey... |
