The name of Fiona Apple's new album is:
"The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do."
Epic is aiming to release the record in late June. In the meanwhile, she'll play a series of U.S. live dates, including a stop at Pitchfork's Official SXSW Showcase on March 15. [Edited 3/7/12 9:13am] 2012: The Queen Returns

'Bout time she announced a new project. Her first album is a spellbinding masterpiece.

REALLY?! Spellbinding masterpieces. I've slept on her then. Is she better than Tori Amos and Kate Bush? I find them boring. What about Alanis? I enjoy her but I need some assurance to take the plunge with Fiona. I wasn't that impressed with her debut video that got played to death years ago.

Yes. Really.
I personally like her far better than Tori amos, and maybe more than Kate Bush, but they really aren't the right people to compare her to. 2012: The Queen Returns

i know comapring isn't always appropriate but who IS the best artist to liken her to?

I guess for me she's in her own league. Adele maybe? 2012: The Queen Returns

Really? I don't think she's like Adele at all. Adele is more mainstream and Fiona is more indie pop/alternative. I would say she's closer to Tori Amos. She even worked with Matt Chamberlain, the same drummer that has played on some of Tori's tours.

Well Fiona has some bluegrass/jazz influences that set her apart from Alanis, Tori and Kate. I don't think she's all that similar to Adele, but I think Adele is influenced by her. 2012: The Queen Returns

I cannot tell you how happy this makes me. Ever since first picking up Tidal in 1996, I have been so in love with Fiona. With every record, it gets better.
Truly, I can't think of a record even in the same league as Extraordinary Machine. That record, to me, is simply perfect from lyrics to melodies to packaging/artwork. The demo version is decent, too.
I cannot fucking wait for this new album.

hmmm, i think i'll check in the used cd bin next time i'm out. hopefully i'll be more impressed than I was when i finally took the plunge and gave radiohead, and massive attack a try after years of raves and buzz

^^ All from Extraordinary Machine for those who've never heard it.

I was crazy about the first 2 records, esp Tiday - wow. She kinda lost me with Extraordinary Machine. The mix just wasn't good, and she caught a lot of flak for it. We bitched about it here, at least.
Hopefully this new record will be great. Lots of vibraphone and mellotron and Matt Chamberlain.

Great news! I know a bunch of girls that absolutely loved Extraordinary Machine and are gonna be fraking out when they hear this news! The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Funnily (typing that always makes me think of cunnilingus)--anyhoo, funnily, it was her third album that got me to discover her. Hated her prior. Space for sale...

Same for me with Badu, thought "she was wack" until WWU.
But for me Fiona's quality was just SUCH a dip with EM...hoping she brings it back on this one. I'll leave it alone babe...just be me
