I think it's the subtle rumbling sound of the needle running along the grooves of the record that gives vinyl that warmer feeling.

There is something more real, or grounded, about vinyl, too.

Tape & cd are translations of music, but if you put an ordinary sewing needle on the record as it plays, you will hear the music very faintly.

So to me it is like the real music vibrations actually exist on the record in a way that it does not on a tape or cd.

Only problem with some vinyl are that the last songs on each side..especially with older albums are jammed on and condensed that you are better off hearing it on cd...but yall didnt hear me though when i asked that question before.

Another thing I notice that the newer vinyl usually only have about 3 or 4 songs on each side giving it equal amount of space to breathe..unlike for example some of those Motown Anthology albums or Century 25 compilations.

However Vinyl still in sound and live from a dj sounds alot better than mp3s or cd's. The bass is immaculate and warm.

Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Growing up on vinyl, I can listen to certain songs on CD and still "remember" them on vinyl. I can still see the LP spinning and remember anticipating what the first notes of the album would sound like.

This is especially true of the songs Dirty Mind, Controversy, 1999, Let's Go Crazy, ATWIAD and Christopher Tracy's Parade.

And who didn't play their Purple Rain LP backwards? smile

Having just spent a fortune on a new turntable set up, i am bound to support the format, but in fairness, I demoed a top range CD player and it was fantastic too. One thing i do know though, is that my Prince vinyls sound amazing compared to their CD counterparts, along with almost all of my pre 90's music, which is a hell of a lot. As for new vinyl, results are pretty mixed in all honesty, some albums seem bad towards the end, which is probably due to the thinner walls as someone earlier mentioned, but others are fantastic, Anna Calvi's new album is a prime example of a perfectly sequenced and sounding new vinyl.
