can we discuss JUNIE MORRISON? especially this album...

Suzie Super Groupie, the third of his Westbound trilogy that was released in 2 years...

I heard When We Do first, of course, then I found Freeze and Suzie Super Groupie

and I like SSG the most, there is something about the tone of the album as a whole

that is so nostalgic of the late 70's.. and the songs are just catchy

I'm always humming the theme music from his "Junie" Suite

and "gimme that Super Groooupie" LOL or "Suzie Thundertuuuuussy".. LOL

the music from this thing is great.. especially the jazzy break in

"If You Love Him".. and the outro part for "Stone Face Joe"

my favorite is "What Am I Gonna Do"

I dig the album as a whole..

any fans of Junie, or of this album?

I got the feeling this dude gets love here

because he did the whole "one man band" thing

before Prince, but after Stevie...

this is a song from his 2nd LP Freeze that struck an

emotional chord within me one day:

and this one is plain funny (the intro)

"don't listen to them! buy me!" lol

Instrumental & song-writing genius (I love his stuff with Funkadelic). Vocally, those tracks above fall short. But I can get down with that music.

I almost came on myself when

I heard this for the first time:

immediately I recognized the part D'Angelo resang

for Common's "So Far To Go" from the Be album

and for the record, before I watched the Ohio Player's UNSUNG episode

I always thought Junie's voice belonged to Sugarfoot lol

thanx @Timothy, LBC, UncleGrandpa, & controversy

I knew others here would appreciate this dude!!!

ever since I saw that UNSUNG I been on the hunt

for his solo stuff... it's really hard to find!!! GOOD GAWD!

and I had to go through a tedious process

to get Freeze & SSG on CD.. but it was soooo worth it! cool

out of all my years of vinyl digging (dating back to the 80s)

I have NEVER run across either of his LPs...

well neither of the three Westbound ones

I'd KILL for a copy of Suzie Super Groupie

I think I'm gonna ask Santa for that this Christmas

Dude wasn't even 18 when he did "Pain" and "Funky Worm"...

I know he got paid off J Dilla's and D'Angelo's borrowing of him on "Tightrope".

yeah I would like to know myself..

so was his transition the following way?:

OHIO PLAYERS > SOLO WESTBOUND > P-FUNK?

I'm unclear about when he joined the p-funk camp

did they jack him from OP? razz

Yeah he was 16 when they recorded "Pain" (17 when "Pain" was a hit and led to them being on Soul Train) and 17 when he recorded "Funky Worm" (the latter song being a hit after he turned 18).

Brides and Junie Morrison

Brides Of Funkenstein with Joons

Cat lifted the Ohio Players to 'nother level. Glad that got memtioned at the Players' unsung ep.

"Super" was Joon's key word at moments lol.

Awesome to see him appear in the last-posted video, on George Clinton's Hall Of Fame induction, with his J.S. Theracon outfit @ 8:08

Yeah, there might be somewhat of an explanation about that in either the OH Players' or George Clinton's unsung ep. During and after the P-Funk era he kept doing his own solo-thangs though.

It seems that every maniac who couldn't be controled creatively, found solace in George Clinton's crew.

Ricky Vincent, author of the book "Funk", interviewed some members of Ohio Players, and they said that he(Junie) was TOO crazy to be among that bunch, that George Clinton would be the only natural employer who could let him raise hell anyway he wants. Reminds me of Bootsy Collins' scenario when he left the JBs.

what I would've given to be a part

of the P-Funk.. during any era..

Bootsy's UNSUNG was a great knowledge

of those times as well!
