Lauryn Hill Performs New Song "Fearless Vampire Killer" Live

March 5, 2012

Is Lauryn Hill really going to make a proper comeback like she promised back in January during a concert in Sweden? It seems possible now, if only because she's been performing more and more and, most importantly, she's been debuting some new material. And thanks to someone with a decent-enough camera phone, we now have footage of her tackling a brand-new track called "Fearless Vampire Killer."

"I’m a fearless vampire killer,” she bellowed over her band’s churning riffage, perhaps nodding to “Fearless Vampire Killers,” a serrated anthem by D.C. hard-core punk legends Bad Brains.

It's difficult to hear all the nuances of a studio recording, of course, but you can definitely get the gist of where she's going here. This song sounds like it could potentially sound really, really awesome when properly recorded.

Please do that soon, Ms. Hill.

I mean... it's been way over a decade since she released a cd.

She should know if she come sout with something new, it won't be a smash. i'd love it be.. but realistically times just changed

I agree she probably knows better but it's that "Thriller Effect" that paralyzes some artists regardless of that reality. For instance, D'Angelo: I think the drug abuse MIGHT HAVE been a reflection of that pressure to deliver something that picked up where "Untitled" left off. Hence the long hiatus. Maxwell too prior to his last release.

As I think about it. I can't imagine the pressure Prince had on him to deliver a "Purple Rain 2". He seemed to have went totally left field. I mean, the complete opposite with "ATWIAD" lol

I don't think Maxwell suffered from the same issue, the "Thriller"" effect, if you will. First of all, Maxwell had several very successful albums before he faded into the sunset. According to Maxwell, he faded out, so he could do Maxwell and enjoy himself and see the world, do what his money now allowed him to do, and still remain half- way anonymous doing it. He took a break so that he wouldn't get caught up and lose himself. And when he came back, we showed him the love. And we'd do the same for Lauryn.

L needs to run her voice through Rihanna and Weezie's computer a few times and lose the band for some disco/techno beats. Maybe make a song that uses the riff from "This Little Piggy" or "Old Macdonald", talk about her vaj, her benz, an her uncontrollable closet alcoholism (sorry her clubbing habit). Thats the only way she gonna catch the 21 and under set/be "popular" some 20 years past her debut.

Otherwise that shit was incredible as is her voice and its emotion. Maybe the vampires she plans to kill fearlessly are William, Kesha, and all those robot people always on the radio talkin' bout the club this and the club that, all night and all that 5oclock in the mornin nonsense.

To schmote the late Groucho, I've got half a mind to join the club and beat yall over the head with it.

I will pump this terrible quality cell phone video's audio for free over the 320k of "Birthday Cake Remix" that Clear Channel is forcing on me ANYDAYYYYYYYYYY.
