Too Many CDs!!!!

I have some CDs due to arrive in the mail within the next fews days and I have a list of reissues that I'm waiting to be released later this year. Problem is, I don't have anywhere to put them! I have literally run out of room for my CDs! I have 9 large CD holders and an entire book shelf filled to capacity with CDs! I've already sold everything I don't want. I guess I'm going to have to start storing some in my bedroom. Sometimes, I feel like a CD addict! Some people may even possibly call me a CD hoarder. OMG! Maybe I am? Perhaps I need therapy for this. nuts

If you're serious...the first step of dealing with any addiction is admitting to yourself that you have a problem. If lack of space is the issue...when I moved cross-country some years ago I put all my standard jewelcased CDs and booklets in these...

...so I could carry them on the plane with me. It wasn't necessarily the plan...but they've been in there ever since. The back inlays I keep in a little box. It's amazing how little room your CDs take up once you get rid of the cases.

Suggest: Buy yourself a media server and download/ripp all of your CD's. Pack and store you CD's somewhere else and when you can buy digital music.

Unless you carry your CDs everywhere, you may not need the cases. The large CD wallets (storing about 200/wallet) would help save space, and if you have a basement, store the jewel cases in boxes down there.

The other solution: iTunes purchases, backed up on disc.

I ripped all of mine into my computer and have my computer plugged into my stereo so it will play through the speakers. When I moved two years ago, I didn't even unpack the CDs out of the boxes. I just put the boxes upstairs in one of my bedroom closets and they take up the entire closet. I have my vinyl on display in bookshelves in my living room and still play it. Vinyl looks good on display because a lot of people don't have vinyl anymore so it looks unique and shows my personal side but CDs on display just looks like clutter these days.

nod

I gave my kid everything I own a couple years ago. And like you I still love to play vinyl, so I kept about 300 45's/albums from my collection to play and have on display. I'm in the process of converting a room in our home for my home recording/music studio. I've yet to find the appropriate sized milk crate, to display them tho'.

I don't want to throw or store away the artwork, not even the back sleeves. So this method looks quite good for my needs.

Turns your CDs into protected Mini-LPs smile

Hmmmm. I'm really digging this idea. I think I may make this my new project. I really couldn't see storing my CDS in one of those other sleeve books. Having CDs without the artwork just doesn't sit well with me. And ripping them all to my computer and storing the CDs away? No way, man! I'm old-school. I ain't really down with the whole MP3 thing.

I can respect that. I can live without my DVD cases, but I keep my CD library in my basement. I only suggested wallets for folks desperate to save space.
