Dazz Band Today Anyone a fan of the Dazz Band back in the day? I was suprised and somewhat saddened to see that they are still around performing at small venues for $25.00 and $15.00 per ticket (with a discount code for a $10.00 ticket--which means they ain't filling the venue.) I used to dig these guys back in the early 80s. They had hits such as Let It Whip, Joystick, and Let It All Blow. I wonder if the band still has all the original members. It is a plus for those looking for a good show with cheap prices but I gotta wonder how old groups like these can make a living with those prices. Even Mint Condition didn't pack 'em in at the recent concert I went to...unlike Chaka Khan, who filled the same venue last year.
Some Dazz songs:

Dazz Band founder Bobby Harris (saxophone) is still active with the group.
Brothers Isaac Wiley and Michael Wiley (bassist and drummer) were part of the Dazz crew until somewhere in the late 80's. I think Mike Wiley passed away too soon.
Guitarist Michael Calhoun from the early Dazz era (and the years before that with Kinsman Dazz), left the group after the first 2 Dazz albums, and continued as producer and composer.
I'm not sure if Pierre DeMudd (lead vocals, trumpet) or Steve Cox (keyboards) are still with them though.
Sennie "Skip" Martin (lead vocals, trumpet) was briefly part of Kool & The Gang around the early 90s and sang lead on K&tG's single "Raindrops". During the 90s to the present, Skip has been releasing solo work, while rejoining the Dazz on their live album in the mid 90s, on their studio album "Here We Go Again" and i think he's still part of the current line up.
Guitarist Marlon "The Magician" McClain (from the group Pleasure) joined the group in 1985 and kept appearing on studio recordings in the following years. Pleasure bassist Nate Phillips joined the gang during the 90s and i think is also still an active member. Tease-drummer Derek "O" Organ joined them for the recording of the album "Under The Streetlights", together with the late singer Terry Stanton.
At one point during the 90s there was the creation of the United We Funk All Stars, featuring Bobby, Skip and another cat from the Dazz, Mary Davis from the SOS Band, Charlie Wilson from the Gap Band, Larry Dodson (lead vocals) and James Alexander (bass) from The Bar-Kays and Michael Vernon Cooper from Con Funk Shun. This super formation went on tour and a live cd + dvd were the result. Radio jock Tom Joyner did a lot of promotion for this project. The System + the both late Rick James and Roger Troutman contributed to UWF All Star's studio album.
There are some other members who i forgot though, and who's whereabouts i'm not aware off.

That's not the Dazz Band, that's Brick.
I have grown to like the Dazz Band over the years. They had some really good songs. One of my favorites is "Swoop (I'm Yours)." I wish more of their cds were reissued.

Great band. One of my favorites. I miss that era of funk. I think Shango pretty much covered everything. I will say I enjoyed the albums after 85's Hot Spot, but I really missed Skip Martin on lead vocals. He was/is definitely a great vocalist. I even bought the K&TG album he was on -- loved Raindrops, but most of the album just wasn't up to K&TG-par.
One thing to add... that third video you posted, purplethunder3121, IS NOT the Dazz Band. It's a song called "Dazz" by a group called Brick (from '76). No relation between the two bands. The Dazz Band started as Kinsman Dazz.

Thanks again for correcting my mistake. It has been quite a while since I listened to the Dazz Band and I was in a hurry posting thus the mistake. I hope peeps who like the band will come out and listen to the current line up. It is worth it just to hear the old hits live although it is never the same as the original line up. I saw the Dazz Band last summer. I think it's down to Skip Martin, Bobby Harris, and Marlon McClain as far as the core members and i didn't see Bobby was on this show. I paid 30 dollars for the Soul Food Music Festival which also featured Cameo, BarKays, ConFunkshun, After 7, and SWV. One of the better outdoor festivals i've seen in awhile. The Dazz are still active performing their own shows and with the Masters of Funk tour with various old school bands. Don't laugh at my funk

They were on an old school lineup with Zapp, and Lakeside and I missed them. I got there late, and they were the opening act, so that was my loss. Zapp and Lakeside both gave good shows though. [Edited 2/24/12 21:24pm]

Went to the Dazz Band concert tonight and the band was tight and professional with trumpet, trombone, bass, guitar, and drums. We were up and dancing in no time--sliding back to the 80s.

Lets not forget Keith Harrison who got a Grammy for co-writting Let it Whip and played on the Jukebox album. Dayton, Ohios own and a founding member of Faze-O. Keith still lives here in Dayton and is the Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Scouts in the Greater Dayton area. Upper persuasion for the lower invasion

Good call! Yeah, i also forgot to mention Kenny Pettus and Eric Fearman. Kenny was still with the band on their live album from 1996, and i vaguely remember him appearing with the UWF All Stars as well.
