The Grammy Awards 1985

Bit of a random question here, but i'm curious. 1984 was no doubt one of the biggest years in music i mean... you had

Purple Rain- Prince

Born In The U.S.A- Bruce Springsteen

Tina Turner- Private Dancer

Madonna- Like A Virgin

Van Halen- 1984

Billy Idol- Rebel Yell

Legend- Bob Marley

The Smiths- The Smiths

U2- The Unoforgettable Fire

A-Ha- Hunting High And Low

Stop making Sense- Talking Heads

Out of The Cellar- Ratt

Diamond Life- Sade

All where huge hits, and i know Lionel weas big in the 80's... but was he popular as say Prince, Bruce & Madonna?

I just find it strange he got the grammy for album of the year over Prince & Bruce... hell even Tina & cyndi got snubbed. I like Can't Slow Down but i don't think masterpiece when i hear it lol

So how big was Lionel? and do you think it was a silly decision giving Lionel the album of the year lol

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

My favorite 1985 Grammy moment. As a matter of fact, my favorite Grammy moment ever!

Yeah, that was one of the biggest WTF moments of the Grammys.

I know not everything that's popular is the best, but Lionel winning over Prince and Bruce makes no sense.

It's one of many moments where the Grammys look out of touch.

This article explains it better.

I always thought the voters split and thats why Lionel won. It happens.
