This was the first thing I ever bought on a compact disc.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I don't much like this album. It's decent, I guess.

I really like "Enjoy Yourself" and "Show You The Way To Go", but overall.. I think Goin' Places is a much stronger album.

nod hooking up with Gamble and Huff was a smart move for the Jacksons.By the mid-70s,the Philadelphia Sound was the hottest sound in R&B.Plus,Gamble and Huff gave them a more mature sound, compared to the last few albums that they did for Motown.

You can definitely hear the influences that Gamble and Huff had on their work after this album and the Going Places album.

Jermaine recorded some songs in Philadelphia around the same time with Norman Harris and some of the MFSB musicians. But Berry Gordy nixed the album. I guess it could be because Gordy might have known about the other brothers recording with Gamble & Huff. A song from the sessions called Good For The Gander was printed up as a 45 single, but I'm not sure it got out other than promotional copies. It was later issued on a compilation. But the rest are still unreleased in Motown's vault.

The Jacksons is a very solid, albeit underrated LP. I think it was a wise move of them to go from the Motown sound to the Philly sound and the results are a classic album. The production is excellent and I think it set the brothers up for what was to come, such as Destiny and Triumph.

There were some Philly sound style songs on the later J5 Motown albums like You Were Made Especially Made For Me and You're My Best Friend.

I wore this album out back in the day.

Enjoy Yourself was the 1st song I sang in my schools talent show.

I'm listening to "Show You The Way To Go" right now and that song still sounds as great as ever. I'm telling you this is one of the most soulful songs The Jacksons/MJ have ever done. I really like "The Jacksons" album. I think it's tied w/ "Destiny" as far as fave Jackson albums go for me. My favorite songs on there are "Blues Away", "Show You The Way To Go", "Good Times", "Enjoy Yourself" and "Keep On Dancin'".

"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

Yes, my favorite song on the album.
It was the first song that MJ himself wrote, right?
The album is very average: there are no weak songs, but nothing really great, too, IMHO.

I agree, this album and Destiny are the two greatest Jacksons albums. And "Show You The Way To Go" is such a wonderful song. It's just perfect! On a recent thread about this song, someone said that it is (in their opinion) the best song that Michael has ever sung.I'm very close to agreeing with them.

It would be interesting to hear those songs! I hope Motown releases it someday.
