Maybe the most covered *Jazz standard.
*(Originally written by a Jazz musician, not a re-arranged Pop tune of the day)

...Cootie Williams Orchestra

This is stated to be the first recording of the tune (1944)

Charles Melvin Williams was born in Mobile, Alabama on July 24, 1910. The son of a church organist and a father who ran a gambling house, Williams attended his first band concert when he was three years old. On the way home from the park, his parents asked what he had heard: "Cootie, cootie, cootie", was his reply.

Now that's really nice, I've never heard this version of Sun Ra's, "Round Midnight". Surprisingly I liked Jarrett's version also, he never did much for me, my ear. biggrin

There's another Sun Ra version with June Tyson on vocals that's a little less raucous. smile

You'll have to explain the "Jarrett problem" one day.

A version by...

Harlepolis

I'm gravitated toward the Cootie Williams rendition. I could SO hear Mr.B sing this song behind Mr.Williams' arrangments, its right up his street.
