Jack White expected to be #1 next week 120-130k

WHITE EARNS HIS STRIPES
Guitar Maestro's Debut Solo Album Headed for His First-Ever #1 Debut

April 25, 2012

The Blunderbuss stops here.

Rock guitar god Jack White's debut solo album on Third Man/Columbia is headed for the top of next week's chart with a sales total projected at between 110-120k for his first-ever #1 bow.

That's based on one-day sales reports from those retailers still conscious after partying over last weekend's impressive Record Store Day sales results. Can we get a vinyl witness?

MCA Nashville Tifton, GA, country singer-songwriter Kip Moore's debut album, Up All Night, is set to bow with a total in the 40-45k range after scoring a Top 10 country single with potential novelty crossover in "Somethin' 'bout a Truck."

Curb country songwriter-turned-performer Lee Brice's sophomore album, Hard 2 Love, his follow-up to 2010's Love Like Crazy, is on target for sales of 37-42k.

Mercury/IDJ's entry into the neo-boy band sweepstakes, U.K.'s The Wanted, arrive with a seven-track EP that includes their megasmash, "Glad You Came," which appears ready to sell 35-40k.

Josh Abbott Band, a country-rock group out of Texas which has been hovering near the top of the iTunes album chart all week, will see sales of 23-27k for Small Town Family Dream, their third release on indie label Pretty Damn Tough.

Finally, world-renowned Dutch DJ Tiesto's Club Life Volume Two Miami, on the Musical Freedom label, looks set to bow in the 12-15k range.

Live nation wasnt really marketing the album interscope was and they did spend alot on videos and most fans were happy with interscopes effort.

The bad news was it made huge news about the biggest fall in soundscan history. That was mainly due to inflated sales and yes we have seen this b4 with gaga when they gave away 99cent albums it had a massive fall. I think those fans sitting on the fence decided not to get it.

Plus madonna is very dependent on hits to generate sales and this album didnt have any hits. Other 50yr+ old are not dependent on hits as much.

Another thing is i saw a granny aged madonna dressed up as a 20 yr old street hooker of course her women fan base with small kids isnt going to go for such material.

I just got it on download and need to listen to it again to give a proper opinion. Jack seems to have a work ethhic similar to another Northwesterner with his producing others, being in two other bands and doing his solo stuff, the lone exception being he doesn't have an org named after him. razz

Madonna didn't want to put any effort into promotion whatsoever. And Interscope didn't spend any money on those videos. That's Madonna's money. And record sales are not where Madonna's bread is buttered any more, ever since signing the Live Nation deal. They are a touring promoter, after all. This is the record in which we see Madonna transition from a singles and albums artist who tours to promote releases to a touring artist who releases records to promote the tour. In the same way that people like Prince, Springsteen and U2 (apparently) have become.

As for what Interscope DID do, well, the delayed, then staggered release of the singles as downloads, then physical discs, then digital maxis, then physical maxis certainly hasn't helped the momentum of either of the songs up the charts. Hell, GGW has done better at radio in the US than Sorry or Give It To Me did, but the completely fucked up release schedule has hobbled it on the charts.

Yeah I see. Because it does seem like she just put this record out for the tour anyway. I assumed that in another thread.

But anyway, I'm going to see if Jack's album is in Wally World lol

Sony Music returns to the top of the chart next week after being unseated by Universal Music for the past five weeks. The first third of 2012 has been dominated by both music groups during the 17-week span with Columbia Records, specifically, holding down the lead for 12 of those weeks. Columbia, which may have three in this week's Top 5, will score a 13th week at the top as Jack White debuts #1, the first ever for the guitar god, even as a member of White Stripes. For now at least, it looks as though Sony could remain in the pole position for a little longer as Carrie Underwood (19/RCA) is set to debut on top in two weeks and will likely hold there for a few charts. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:

*Jack White (Third Man/Columbia) 120-130k
Adele (XL/Columbia) 85-90k
Lionel Richie (Mercury Nashville) 80-85k
One Direction (Syco/Columbia) 40-45k
Nicki Minaj (YM/CM/Universal Republic) 35-40k
*Lee Brice (Curb) 35-40k
Jason Mraz (Atlantic) 35-40k
*Kip Moore (MCA Nashville) 35-40k
Gotye (Fairfax/Universal Republic) 30-35k
*The Wanted (Mercury/IDJ) 30-35k
The Black Keys (Nonesuch) 27-30k
Train (Columbia) 27-30k
Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 24-27k
*Josh Abbott Band (Pretty Damn Tough) 21-24k
Bonnie Raitt (Redwing) 18-21k
Think Like a Man (Epic) 17-20k
