Eh. Black kids got they rap, white kids got they death metal, everyone's happy. lol

Before reading all the posts, I was going to say that death metal is just as listenable/unlistenable as rap music is to me.

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

That's really all I can say. It's not my cup of tea but alright...if it floats other people's boat...

I respect their musicianship and all, but I can't listen to that guy for 5 seconds without bursting out laughing. I don't know how anyone who isn't some kind of retarded douchebag could take that the least bit seriously. And the name of the song is hilarious as well: 'Surgery of Impalement'. lol These guys appear to be actual adult men. Who apparently didn't get a lot of hugs growing up.

It's ironic that people can put down and joke about music other people like, but get offended when it's done to them.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I was never really into the "cookie monster vocals" but of course Death Metal is really music. Think of it this way, if you wiped off the vocals and had a "proper" singer re-record them would you consider it to be music? Sure you would. Musically I don't see how you can say that Death Metal is not really music. Some of those drummers are among the most skilled in the world. Vocally? That may be a bit tougher but they are still "singing" melodies so I think it qualifies as music.

Someone else mentioned this before but it really is a lot easier to appreciate Death Metal if you are a pissed off fifteen year old. Something about the aggression in the music really connects with that demographic.

Depends on how you look at it. Death Metal has a very fringe audience. "Shit hop" is arguably the most popular music of the current era. A case could be made, and vainandy has made that case many times, that "shit hop" is doing much more damage to music than Death Metal could ever do.

There's real instruments in death metal. I've heard drums guitar and bass in it. They may be played horribly in death metal but at least they are instruments. lol Shit hop is a slow weak sounding drum machine beat with some talking on top of it and maybe a sample of someone else's record thrown in.

Very true! It's kinda like not liking symphonies but still respecting and realizing that they are real music even though you don't like them. Plus, death metal, like symphonies, only has it's small audience which hasn't taken over the radio and driven everything else out. I have no problem with genres that are no threat to the good stuff's existence.

Uh....did I say hip hop? No, I said shit hop. There's a difference. Yeah, I could go way back and find plenty of good old stuff from the extreme early 1980s. Shit hop is that slow to midtempo, stripped down, talking over a beat mess. And if the person has a thug look or attitude, throw them in the shit hop category too. evillol

I actually really liked it. I don't have much Death Metal, the main culprit for me is Opeth.

this i suppose is classed as Death Metal. I LOVE this smile

rialb is right, while the vocals in death metal are eek

As i mentioned earlier, from a musicians stand point there is some good stuff. If Rob Halford or Bruce Dickinson where to sing on these song's instead. Then it would be easier on the ears to listen to for the casual metal fan wink

A large fallacy I see is that people assume a certain style is better just because it uses instruments.

All i'm saying is they are good instrumentalist is all i was saying.

Look even some of the worst shit you can find SOMETHING decent to stay about it.

Example i hate club music, Rihanna, Lady Manga, Katy Puuuury, LMFAO ETC. But a lot of it is well produced, i still IMO think it's shit but i admit it's well produced.

See what i mean ? wink

Sure it’s music. But over time most extreme metal bands have evolved into three or four virtuoso musicians playing mathematically compatible solo parts while another guy grunts off rhythm. So there isn’t much room for complexity other than high-speed guitar solos and games with time signatures. I got bored with most of it and went back to listening to music that actually has rests and melodies.
