Went to the Dazz Band concert tonight and the band was tight and professional with trumpet, trombone, bass, guitar, and drums. We were up and dancing in no time--sliding back to the 80s. Skip Martin was front and present with lead vocals on old crowd pleasers such as "Joystick, "Let It Whip," and "Swoop," as well as a few ballads for the ladies. Skip Martin is still fine as hell in his smooth OG suit and hat. His vocals are still smooth and sexy as well as his trumpet stylings. Bobby Harris and Marlon McClain were there also from the original Dazz Band and the comradery and joy in playing together were apparent. Skip even gave a nod to his old bandmates Kool & the Gang (and the ladies LOL) with a Dazz-styled rendition of "Ladies Night." All in all, it was a great concert and I was tempted to stay for the second show, if I didn't have to get up early the next morning. If you have the chance to see the Dazz Band I highly recomment that you go see them! BTW Skip Martin has a new jazz CD "Miles High" out which I am listening to now and I really enjoy it. Mostly instrumental but some great music.
Thanks for your review Looks like a having a ball! The 2 cats on the outside i don't recognise but otherwise its from left to right: (unknown) / Marlon McClain / Bobby Harris / Skip / Eric "EQ" Young / (unknown). Bassdog Eric "EQ" Young also performed with Con Funk Shun in recent years. Kinda what Skip and Marlon did and good business to get the bills paid. "EQ" started around 1985 with the Westcoast funkers Radiance, who had an impressive live reputation. The cat on the far left i actually recognise now from performing with either the Dazz or the UWF All Stars on one of Sinbad's summerfests in Aruba.
The whole stage sound is tight right there in that clip. I can imagine how great it must've sound at the Frisco gig
"Tight" is the word for the band--very professional and audience savvy. I really wanted to stay for the second show, which I'm sure lasted longer and was better because of less time constraints. People were flocking in like they didn't for the first show.

Maybe they will perform there again and then you could attend the 2 sets? I remember staying a few times for a second set of other artists. Last time i did was a night gig from Al Jarreau. It was a seated concert and during a ballad medley in the second set my eyes fighted hard not to fall asleep oh my. Eventually i lost the battle and suddenly woke up in the middle of his moody song "Across The Midnight Sky" that was a weird, dreamy and surrealistic exprerience for a moment lol.
I loved the Dazz Band even back when they were known as "Kinsman Dazz". Kinsman is a urban street in Cleveland chock full of good churches and BBQ joints Anybody else out there a fan of the song "I Might As Well Forget About Loving You" ? That used to be the JAM on r& b radio back in the day.
