Maybe it was just me but when I watched her Unsung, it appeared that either her family was completely clueless or just didn't care about her well being at all. When she was raped, I was just eek when it was talked about as if it was something that just "happened" and she tried her best to move on. Did her family not go to the police? Did they seek any type of justice for her at all? I just disbelief

I don't know, but I'm guessing maybe that was just the M.O. for the times back then? It seems there are so many stories about rapes back then (with celebrities and everyday women), and people wouldn't go to the police...maybe because back then the authorities didn't give a shit about minority women, so often times people took justice into their own hands... & also risked getting their family members locked up... damn shame what happened to her. neutral

Yeah that's true. I keep forgetting that times back then were completely different from now. But it's just so sad, so tragic. sad

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I actually love reading up on stories from times long ago. It gives you insight on how different things REALLY were...

Sadly, not really. These are more conservative statistics, and they show 60% of sexual assaults are never reported, and 15 of 16 rapists will never spend a day in jail. I didn't report it when it happened to me, and none of my friends who've experienced it did. I mean, it's still better today in that it gets reported at all, but I think a lot of people believe things are way better than they actually are. Especially when you add in the race of the victim. sad

Anyhow, this is my song for all of them (and anyone who's lost someone they love):

And I see all of your creations as one perfect complex
No one less beautiful
Or more special than the next
