  1. Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You [Mediocre, generic song given an amazing performance]
  2. The Beatles - Rock and Roll Music [much more "rock and roll" than Chuck Berry's version]
  3. Prince - Crimson and Clover + A Case Of U + La La Means I Love You
  4. Amy Winehouse - Valerie + Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow? + Cupid
  5. The Jimi Hendrix Experience - All Along The Watchtower
  6. Elvis Presley - Yesterday [better singer than Paul McCartney]
  7. Harry Nilsson - Mother Nature's Son [also a better singer than Paul McCartney]

While I'm thinking about it:

Sinead O'Connor/Prince - Nothing Compares to You - Better than any version Prince has delivered.

Teena Marie - Wishing On A Star - See 'I Will Always Love You' above.

Glady Knight and the Pips/Marvin Gaye- 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine.' Both versions went to #1 within a year of each other, Gladys Knight and Pips going first.

Donna Summer - MacArthur Park - Easily the best known and definitive version.

Prince/Mavis Staples - Train - I like both versions but lean toward Prince

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.
