Well she said it straight out in 2010 on the Tavis show, she said that "she was an individual, and alot with labels now are not looking for individuals, alot are looking to cash in on what the other is doing, so you wont have alot of range in what artists can do"
Im glad she is finally working on her own, because in my mind she has been on her own since "1 thing" and even then, 1 thing was done a year before it was released, Amerie had the track and sony held it up to release their "other" artist who had a similar sounding record all of a sudden. But thats when it all started, the label did not want that "change", 1 thing was Amerie's work along with Harrison, but it was her sound people never give that credit to her. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I'm just glad she took advantage of what was in front of her rather than rely on labels. It seemed they had problems with Amerie from the start.
