I think Diddy bit hard from Prince's apple on this one. Just as he did with "Last Night" w/Keyshia Cole....

[Edited 2/21/12 7:19am]

' Last Night' for me is more evocative of The Eurythmics than Prince.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

So I'm going to guess that Ready For the World's "Oh Sheila" was on the part I thread? Because I know some out of touch folks who could had sworn that was Prince and the song was about Shiela E. lol lol lol

Guilty here! wave lol I used to think that was a Prince song, and the guys in that band, emulated the Prince hairstyle and clothes. I really thought it was about Sheila E too, until I found out they had nothing to do with Prince and that song wasn't about Sheila E, but it really sounds like a Prince-penned track. I just watched their vid a few posts above, and I could see that song being song by Morris Day & The Time, back then.

Also, what is the criteria? I'm not familiar with Pt 1 of this thread.

Is it just Prince-ly music? Or does "fake" mean it's a poor attempt at a Prince-ly sound?

Probably both. For example.

I don't quite get a Prince connection with this tune.

You obviously get a Cameo vibe with the other hit single

from this album Games.

Well RFTW are from Flint, Michigan so the Minneapolis influence was right

there in their backyard.

I wonder if RFTW made as much money during the course of their career as Prince's most profitable protege? They had six albums, two greatest hits and Melvin's solo projects. How would they stack up next to The Time?

Terius Nash (aka The Dream)

studies the "Minneapolis sound" immensely!

the whole girl group (Electrik Red)

thing was inspired by Vanity/Apollonia 6

and Andre Cymone's The Girls

most of this album:

which bit off of this album:

been some good ones. My personal fave is Do Anything, people actually were dumb enough to think it was Prince under a pseudonym. To this day people still think that. But if you're ears are good, you can tell that the production is pretty cheap and that it's way too poppy for Prince to have written at that stage in his career and he never really did write pop music without his little twists to them. The vocalist obviously studied alot of Prince's post-falsetto dominated singing from ATWIAD and SOTT for the performance. Great pop song.

The album version sounds more like Prince with it's "International Lover" like adlibs but the live version is too dope not to post up.
