How could Clive Davis allow this?

Clive is pimping Jennifer out just like he did poor Whitney.....Bad idea and a total betrayal of Whitney's legacy..Plus having Jennifer sit next to him on interview with Piers Morgan was like he was dethroning Whitney......

Like I said in an earlier post, Clive is a slick old devil. disbelief Thank you for reading between the lines and noticing the body languages without my input.

Clive did that with Phyllis. Phyllis didn't die when she was in Arista but he sure hoisted up Whitney as his next diva when he got tired of Phyllis and Clive did the same to Whitney prior to her death. Clive kept saying J. Hud was "the next Whitney" for years. He's shady, always has been.

Clive has really shown his true colors since Whitney's death. I can't get over the fact he had a fucking PARTY with her rotting corpse upstairs.

Clive is one smug SOB.

Also let's not forget that mini-war that occurred between Clive and Kelly Clarkson. Clive definitely has something against people who go against his word. Kelly wanted to make a dark-themed rock album and Clive tried to silence her. I don't know about later but when that occurred, I was clapping for Kelly.

Im not going to take Clive's side but honestly as a businessman he had to move on. Whitney's voice was past its prime and would never return to the form it once was and she was almost 50. Like it or not Clive had to find another voice if he wanted to keep himself in the game. That's the bizness.

He dropped her I guess. Angela failed to give Clive a really big hit. I know they boosted her name on Phyllis' Unsung but it seemed like her career suffered the same fate in Arista. I'm sure she and Phyllis later on in life shared some stories about Clive especially when they performed together around '93.

No shade..... Phyllis is talented in her own right and I enjoy her but she didn't have the SPARK that Whitney had. Clive should have let her just be her own artist like a Natalie Cole. Jennifer Hudson is nothing more than the next Jennifer Holiday. No hits and weak album sales...... Clive will drop her just like he did Deborah Cox in 3 years.

Whitney worked because it was supposed too. Often imitated but never duplicated. cool

No prob. What I find interesting is that Arista didn't seem to have a lot of female acts. I think Melissa Manchester was its first female act, followed by Phyllis (if I'm right), then Angela, Dionne and Aretha joined in 1979, 1980, followed by Whitney three years later.

Before Jennifer, Clive wanted Kelly to be "the next Whitney" with a Moment Like This was release as Kelly's debut single. But Kelly didn't make an impact until she went for the Pat Benetar-inspired pop rock sound of Since You Been Gone.

And this bullshit about looking for "the next Whitney" is going to get as worst as looking for "the next Michael". THIS is NOT going to happen! Just as there will never been another Michael Jackson, there will never been another Whitney Houston. I rather for Kelly Clarkson & Jennifer Hudson to be themselves and be as original as possible. But their boss Clive would rather bully them to do the exact opposite.

Yep. That's just his nature... I forgot about Kelly's first album, she definitely was pinned as "the next Whitney" then. I bet the "Breakaway" album shocked Clive.

EXACTLY. So this all is a joke b/c none of them will reach their(Whitney or MJ's) success anyway. J-Hud has a great voice but her best singing gigs have been in weight watchers commercials. No idea what Kelly is doing these days. Even though he is a business man I would like to think Clive isn't that crazy to go so hard at copying. So its best to stop it b/c it can backfire in J Hud and/or Clive's face. J Hud in The Bodyguard really that seriously makes me lol lol lol lol. I got love for her and her voice but her new figure withstanding she still aint got that kinda thang going. Sorry.

Dang!

I thought the same damn thing when I saw the video with Clive and JHud.
Jennifer would do well to not let Clive use her in his lame attempt to recapture the past by trying to DUPLICATE the magic he shared with Whitney.
Whitney had lots of fans AND friends in the business. Seems like she never hurt snyone but herself.
Jhud may get a backlash if people perceive her trying to slide into someone else's legacy
Jhud addressed it in the interview when she talked about how surreal it was for her to sing her idol's song on stage. Keep that attitude.
This reminds me of when people were lookimg for the next MJ.

My question is who is gonna play J. Hud in her biopic? Seriously, after watching her 'Behind The Music', I was beyond moved by the trials and tribulations she has overcome. She's been through so much over the past few years in her personal and professional life and still holds herself together with grace. Her life inspires me to remain strong even in my darkest hours. People can say what they want about this woman but she's strength personified as far as I'm concerned.

Right!

It saddened me to hear about his speech although I didn't hear it first hand. I guess I believed the hype that Clive took whitney under his wing and groomed her not only because she was a cash cow but also because he believed in her talent and wanted the best for her personally. Show business does not have to be exclusive from caring. Heck Kevin Costner believed in Whitney and cared about her more than Clive and his association tine with Whitney was BRIEF. Compared to the years Clive spent with Whitney.

Clive saw Whitney as a money grabber from her voice to her looks. If one of them was destroyed, he wouldn't wanna deal with you. He can talk about that "Whitney wanted to come back" all he want. He was the guy that forced his hand at her. I just wished Whitney would've been strong enough to force her hand back and said "nah I'm not doing it" but it's too late now. shrug

I think she has a good head on her shoulders and won't do anything stupid to destroy herself because she seems to want to continue to strive to make her mother proud...may she rest in peace.
